After the stampede near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory parade took a turn for the worse and killed 11 people, the state government has made a new rule.

The state home minister Parameshwara said that the Karnataka government has decided to now formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for mega events, meetings and celebrations. This new and highly improvised SOP for mega events will be aimed at preventing any untoward incidents.

The initiative from the government comes just after the wake of a stampede near the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium on June 4, as reported by PTI.

While speaking to the media after the stampede, the Home Minister said, “The government will take strict measures identifying the lapses that led to the stampede near the stadium, where a large number of people had thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations.”

While 11 people have died, 56 have been injured in the incident, 46 of whom were injured have gone back home after the treatment, while 10 are at the hospital, and their condition is stable according to doctors.

"Aimed at preventing such incidents, the government and the home department will formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). We will give instructions that from now on any mega events, meetings and celebrations should be held within the framework of the directions issued by the police department," Parameshwara said.

A new SOP will be formulated to ensure that such incidents never happen in the future, he added.

"Such deaths shouldn't happen; innocents should not die. Looking at the dead bodies, it pains anyone.... Many of them were youngsters in the 20-25 years of age. They came happily to celebrate; they wouldn't have expected to lose their lives. We will take strict measures identifying the lapses," he further said.

Parameshwara also said that Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had held a meeting yesterday. During the meeting he had ordered for a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The enquiry on the stampede situation will be led by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner.

"If any lapses are found, strict action will be taken against whoever is responsible," he said. While addressing the media, the home minister said he did not want to go into details because an inquiry has been ordered, and all the details will be shared after the enquiry is completed.
