At least eight people were killed and several others were injured in a powerful explosion in a car parked near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, setting multiple vehicles ablaze and shattering window panes in the vicinity, officials said, according to the ANI.

Fifteen people have been brought to Lok Nayak Hospital. Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. Three are seriously injured. One is in stable condition: Medical Superintendent, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital told the ANI.


Fire tenders, ambulances, and senior police officials at the spot after a call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage.



Multiple casualties have been brought to the LNJP hospital due to the blast near Gate No. 1 of Red Fort Metro Station. Several people have been injured in the incident, sources told the ANI.

The Delhi Police sounded a high alert across the city following the incident.

At least seven fire tenders were rushed to the site, while police cordoned off the area to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, the blast occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station.

“The intensity of the explosion was quite high, and injuries are feared,” a senior official said.

The impact of the blast was strong enough to shatter windows of vehicles parked several metres away and was heard in nearby buildings. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as plumes of fire and thick smoke rose from the site.

“I was at the gurdwara when I heard a deafening sound. It was so loud we couldn’t tell what it was. Several vehicles nearby were completely damaged,” an eyewitness recounted, according to the PTI.

"I never heard such a loud explosion ever in my life. I fell three times due to the explosion. It felt as if we were all going to die..." said a local shopkeeper to ANI
