Around 70 flying squads keeping vigil in all the 21 state assembly constituencies in Pune district
With Lok Sabha elections in the city two days away, the district election officials have increased vigilance to curb malpractices like distributing money and liquor to woo voters.
Deputy district election officer Apoorva Wankhede said, “Our flying squads and vigilance teams are already on the field. We have given them instructions to tighten their rounds, as the possibility of ill practices increases in the last couple of days before the elections.”
Right now, a total of 70 flying squads are covering all 21 state assembly constituencies across the district.
Manoj Joshi, election officer looking after cases related to code of conduct, said. “Till now, we have lodged 170 complaints and 45 FIRs for flouting of model code of conduct and disruption of law and order.
Many candidates are not serious about the matter, since complaints relate to conducting rallies without permission, indulging in fireworks etc.”
He added, “But, we are increasing our vigilance as the official poll campaign is ending on Tuesday.”
