The National Lok Adalat held in Thane district, Maharashtra, successfully resolved 55,981 cases, with total settlements amounting to Rs 205 crore, an official from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) said on Sunday.
According to DLSA Secretary R.S. Pajankar, the hearings were conducted on Saturday across 111 benches specially constituted for the Adalat.
He said out of 3,47,204 pending cases, 2,28,971 matters were heard in the Lok Adalat and 55,981 were resolved, as per the news agency PTI.
Pajankar, in a release, said 40,244 post-litigation cases involving Rs 173.81 crore and 15,737 pre-litigation cases, involving Rs 31.23 crore, were settled.
These included bank recovery matters, criminal compoundable offences, electricity and water bill disputes, motor accident claims, and matrimonial disputes, among other cases, according to the news agency PTI.
Bombay High Court Justices Advait M Sethna and Manjusha Deshpande inaugurated the proceedings, the release stated.
NIA files chargesheet against three accused in Amritsar temple grenade attack case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three accused in the Amritsar temple grenade attack case, the agency said in a release on Sunday.
In the chargesheet filed before the Special NIA Court, Mohali (Punjab) on Friday, NIA charged Vishal Gill (Chuchi), Bhagwant Singh (Manna Bhatti), and Diwan Singh (Sunny) for their role in the conspiracy and execution of the attack, carried out on Thakurdwara Sanatan Temple, Chheharta, Amritsar.
Vishal Gill was one of the two bike-borne assailants who had hurled the grenade in the wee hours of 15th March 2025. The other assailant, Gursidak Singh (Sidki), was killed in a police encounter two days after the attack.
As per the chargesheet, Bhagwant Singh (Manna Bhatti) had facilitated the attackers by providing shelter, safe concealment of grenades, motorcycles for reconnaissance, and logistical support before and after the attack. Diwan Singh (Sunny) has been accused of his role in harbouring the co-accused and destruction of evidence.
Another key accused, Sharanjeet Kumar, was arrested by NIA from Gaya, Bihar, on 5th September 2025. Investigations against him and the foreign-based absconding accused, Badalpreet Singh, are continuing.
