Marriage hall operators get a 'parking ticket'

The next time you have to attend a wedding, be sure to park your vehicle in the parking lot of the marriage hall and not on the road outside. If your vehicle is found obstructing traffic, you will be booked under the Motor Vehicle Act.u00a0 Traffic police say that it is your right to park in the marriage hall lot, so fight for it with the management if you are told to park outside.

The traffic department has even launched drive to book marriage hall operators who do not let visitors use the parking lot, forcing them to leave their vehicles on the road. It plans to book the operators under Sections 102/117 of the Bombay Police Act and IPC 283.

Acting on frequent complaints by residents living near marriage halls, the Swargate Traffic Division, which issued notices to marriage halls in the city, registered offenses against three marriage halls near the Pune-Satara road.

The action was taken by Police Inspector Mahadev Gavade and his team. After issuing several warnings against the use of public roads for parking, the police initiated action against three marriage halls in the city between November 23 and 28. Notices were issued to Suhag marriage hall in Bibvewadi, Swayamwar hall on the Pune-Satara road and Shahi Shahnai hall in Gultekdi.

According to the traffic police, they received information on November 23 that traffic was blocked because of parking on the roads near these marriage halls. The people who had come to attend a wedding at Suhag marriage hall told the police that they were forced to park on the roads as parking provision had not been made at the hall. A traffic police team inspected the spot and found truth in the claims. As a similar pattern was observed at Swayamwar and Shahi Shahnai marriage halls on November 28, similar action was taken against these. Complaints were registered against three operators of the marriage halls.
