Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Wednesday paid a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, Prabodhankar Thackeray, on his birth anniversary. Prabodhankar Thackeray was a prominent social reformer who worked for the welfare of society.
While posting on social media platform X, Raj Thackeray recalled his grandfather Prabodhankar’s fearless fight against conservatism and his immense contribution to social reform and the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray, while posting on social media platform X, wrote, “Today is the birth anniversary of our grandfather Prabodhankar Thackeray. Our grandfather fought the conservatives with three weapons: oratory, writing and direct action. Our beloved grandfather was inspired by the literature of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. This is what made his ideas of social reform clear enough, and after that, our grandfather not only laid the foundation of social work but also crushed those who interfered in it.”
Raj Thackeray further noted that Prabodhankar’s writings and reformist ideas not only laid the foundation of progressive social work but also strongly opposed regressive forces of the time.
Posting on X, Raj Thackeray said, “Today, when we have to tell writers and artists to take a stand on a serious issue, then our grandfather, who took a clear stand on social reform and created immense literature and took all the conservatives who came to his rescue, cannot be praised enough.”
Highlighting Prabodhankar Thackeray’s unmatched role in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, Raj Thackeray further said that his grandfather kept political and ideological differences aside to unify voices for the creation of Maharashtra.
While pointing towards Prabodhankar Thackeray’s seminal book Devachana Dharma ki Dharmachi Deole, observing that if he were alive today, he would have strongly opposed the mockery of the religion which has been made today.
Thackeray said, "Grandfather has a book called 'Devachana Dharma ki Dharmachi Deole'..." If Grandfather were alive today, seeing the efforts being made to capture God in the name of religion, in the name of festivals, and to fit Him into the framework of economic ambitions, he would have attacked the system that markets religion and turns a blind eye to it.”
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief, while concluding his post on social media platform X, further wrote that, “But all of us in the Thackeray family got identity, strength, and clarity of thought purely because of our Grandfather.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis as per social media post on X also offered floral tributes to the great social reformer and prominent leader of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, Keshav Sitaram Thackeray, known as Prabodhankar Thackeray, on his Birth Anniversary at Chhatrapati SambhajiNagar on September 17.
