Delhi: Two hospitals, IGI Airport receive bomb threats

The Delhi Fire Services on Sunday said that two city hospitals and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport received bomb threats through email, reported the PTI. The incident comes around 11 days after over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR received a bomb scare of unprecedented scale. According to the PTI, the bomb threats were reported from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Burari Hospital in the northern part of the city and Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in outer Delhi, a senior official of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said. The police sources told the PTI, the airport authorities received a threat email at 6 pm. After a call regarding the threat from Burari Hospital at 3 pm, local police, bomb squad, dog squad were rushed to the spot, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena said. The teams that rushed to the spot checked the hospital but nothing suspicious has been found so far, the officials said, the news agency reported on Sunday. In a statement, an official at the Burari Hospital said, "At around 3 pm, we received an email regarding a bomb in the hospital. After this, all the safety measures had been thoroughly checked and everything was stable. This was the first time we received such an email," as per the PTI. Sanjay Gandhi Hospital also received a threat email around 3 pm, according to officials. "Soon after the call, we immediately pressed two fire engines at both the locations. Our teams are still there as the search operation is going on," a DFS official said. On May 1, over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR received an identical threat email claiming that explosives had been planted on their premises, triggering massive evacuations and searches as panic-stricken parents rushed to pick up their children. "Nothing objectionable" was found during searches by authorities which later declared it a hoax. The Delhi Police's anti-terror unit special cell has traced the domain of emails to Russia and it is suspected to have been formed with the help of the dark web -- an encrypted online content that allows individuals to hide their identity and location from others. Dalits, tribals to become slaves again if Modi get third term: Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday asked the people to vote for his party, claiming that a third term for PM Modi and Amit Shah would mean that the poor, Dalits and tribals would be 'treated like slaves', the PTI reported. While addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Dhule district on Sunday, Mallikarjun Kharge appealed to voters to choose his party to save democracy and the Constitution. The Congress has fielded former MLA Shobha Bachhav from the Dhule constituency for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. "Before Independence, the poor, Dalits and tribals were treated like slaves. If you give a third term to Modi and Shah, the same situation will repeat. We will become slaves again," Mallikarjun Kharge said, as per the PTI. Dhule in north Maharashtra will go to polls in the fifth phase of the general elections on May 20. Here, the BJP has nominated former Union minister Subhash Bhamre. "You have to vote for your own sake and your own people. We need to save the Constitution. This election will shape the future of the country, thus it is an important election," he said. If there is no Constitution, there will be 'no one to save you', he said, claiming that 'RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had said in 2015 that the Constitution should be changed'. Later, many BJP MPs and saffron party leaders also made similar statements, he said, the news agency reported on Sunday. Mallikarjun Kharge also accused PM Modi of 'spreading lies'. PM Modi chest-thumped about bringing back black money from abroad but never delivered on that promise, said Mallikarjun Kharge. "He claimed to provide two crore jobs every year but never did. Instead of increasing farmers' income, as per his claims, his wrong policies increased the production cost for growers. That is why PM Modi should be removed from power," Mallikarjun Kharge added. Modi won't be PM after poll results in June: Tharoor Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said the country need not have to wait till September 2025 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not remain at the helm after June 4, when results of Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be declared, the PTI reported. Shashi Tharoor's comments come a day after AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal claimed Modi is asking for votes for Home Minister Amit Shah, who will be his successor after Modi "retires" on turning 75 in September 2025. "A new government will come to power at the Centre in June. There is no need to wait till September 2025," Tharoor said while responding to a query on Kejriwal's remarks. (with PTI inputs)

Uttarakhand CM Dhami receives grand welcome during roadshow in UP's Bahraich

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami received a grand welcome from workers and people during a roadshow organized in support of the BJP candidate in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich on Saturday. Workers were seen showering flowers while chanting "Jai Shree Ram" and "Bharatiya Janata Party Zindabad" slogans. Later, while attending a 'Yuva Sammelan' programme organized in favour of BJP candidate Kripashankar Singh from the Jaunpur parliamentary constituency in Badalpur Jaunpur, CM Dhami took a dig at the Congress government and stated that the Hindu population declined due to the Congress, which ruled the country for 60 years. Dhami emphasized that the upcoming elections are not just to elect MPs but to choose the future of the country, and asked the youth to pledge to make the lotus bloom in the Jaunpur parliamentary constituency. He said that today, anti-national forces are working as a sleeper cell of the opposition to stop Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the name of casteism and classism. Emphasizing the work done under PM Modi's regime, Dhami said, "Historic work has been done inside the country in the last 10 years. The country has progressed in infrastructure development, science, and technology. Today, the youth of the country is walking shoulder to shoulder with the Prime Minister." He highlighted India's stance on global issues and its achievements across various domains. "Modi ji's unwavering support for the youth was noted, alongside the government's implementation of numerous schemes aimed at their empowerment. Notably, India's accomplishment of constructing 100 kilometers of road within a mere 100 hours was cited as a testament to its progress and efficiency," he said. "Due to the Prime Minister's firm resolve and the talent and hard work of the youth, today big foreign companies want to come to India. Historic decisions have been taken in the country under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Article 370 was removed from Kashmir, the CAA law has been implemented, triple talaq has also been abolished, and the construction work of the grand temple of Lord Shri Ram has been done in Ayodhya," Dhami pointed out. Rajnath slams Kejriwal, says Modi will become PM for 3rd time and complete term

Union Defence Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday over his remarks on Narendra Modi and asserted that the latter will become the prime minister for the "3rd time" in a row and "complete his term," reported the PTI. In a long post in Hindi on X, Rajnath Singh also said due to the disappointment of an impending defeat, "the entire INDI alliance, including the AAP, has lost its mind". A day after his release from jail on interim bail, Kejriwal launched a blistering attack on Modi, alleging that the prime minister is on a "one nation, one leader" mission to impose "dictatorship" by putting all opposition leaders behind bars and "politically finishing off" those in the ruling BJP. Meanwhile, while addressing a gathering at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters on Saturday, Arvind Kejriwal said that Modi is asking for votes for Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming that the latter will be the prime minister's successor after he "retires" on turning 75. Singh slammed Kejriwal for his remarks and exuded confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will emerge victorious in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024, according to the PTI. "After being released from jail on interim bail, the kind of baseless things AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has said about the BJP today, it is becoming clear that in this election, the BJP and the NDA are going to achieve a spectacular victory under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi. Due to the disappointment of defeat, the entire INDI alliance, including the Aam Aadmi Party, has lost its mind," he said on the microblogging platform. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which is "unable to decide on its leadership", is trying unsuccessfully to "speculate about us", Singh added. The Supreme Court has granted Arvind Kejriwal interim bail on Friday in a money-laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam to enable him to campaign in the Lok Sabha polls. In his address, the AAP chief also said his party will be part of the next government at the Centre and will get full statehood for Delhi. Further slamming Kejriwal for his remarks on Modi, Rajnath Singh said "the entire NDA alliance, including the BJP, is fighting this Lok Sabha election under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he will become the prime minister for the third time and complete his term, the news agency reported on Saturday. There is no doubt about this neither within the BJP nor within the NDA nor in the minds of the countrymen". The defence minister said while Modi is a "symbol of credibility in politics", Kejriwal is a "symbol of the crisis of credibility in politics". Modi is in the "mind of the BJP" and the faith that the country has in the prime minister's leadership and the acceptance he has in the minds of people, nothing is even close to that for the leaders of the INDIA opposition bloc, he said. 'Why Modi govt didn't take action if Ambani, Adani were sending money to Cong'

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning why his government did not take any action if, as per his allegation, industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani were sending black money to Congress, reported the PTI. Addressing back-to-back election rallies in Bihar's Samastipur and Muzaffarpur, Mallikarjun Kharge asserted that PM Modi could become the prime minister of India only because Congress fought for its Independence. "PM Modi says we are silent on Ambani and Adani, we are not... I am asking why his government did not take any action if, according to his allegation, we received black money from these industrialists? Is it because they themselves received black money?" Mallikarjun Kharge asked, as per the PTI. "Finally, the PM has admitted that these two businessmen have black money... Then why did you not take action against them? Where was the black money coming from? You should answer," he said, according to the PTI. PM Modi on Wednesday, for the first time during the Lok Sabha elections 2024, accused the Congress of having a "deal" with "Ambani and Adani", and asked if the party had received "tempo loads of black money" from the two industrialists. Kharge said that the PM calls himself "chowkidar" of the country, "so why did not the chowkidar stop these tempos?" Alleging that the BJP would end democracy if it was not voted out, Kharge said it was because of this democracy that a tea-seller's son could become the prime minister of India and he, the son of a labourer, could become the president of the opposition Congress. He alleged that the BJP was spreading communal hatred to divert the attention of the people from issues that mattered, the PTI reported. "Neither the PM nor other BJP leaders will talk about issues such as growing unemployment or price rise. They are spreading communal hatred. The forces that are attacking the Constitution and spreading the politics of hate, must be defeated. They are dividing this country on lines of religion and castes," he alleged. Recalling the contributions made by the Congress for India, he said former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the country and the people got the right to vote due to the struggles of icons such as Mahatma Gandhi and Rajendra Prasad. Kharge alleged the PM was lying that the Congress would impose an inheritance tax if it is voted to power. "They are lying to the people and attempting to mislead and scare them. After three phases, it appears that the elections are not going as per their expectations. They are raking up irrelevant issues," he said. He claimed the INDIA bloc performed well in all three phases and will continue to do so. "We will comfortably form the government at the Centre," he claimed. Kharge said the PM does not talk about the promises made by the BJP over the years, the news agency reported. "What happened to two crore jobs every year? What happened to the bullet train? What about the smart cities? He will not talk about these things. He knows only one thing, to abuse Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and me." He claimed that the PM mentions Congress and the Gandhi family more than he takes the name of Lord Ram each day. "If Modi becomes PM again, he along with RSS will change the Constitution and remove reservations for OBC, SCs and STs," Kharge alleged. He also alleged that the Modi government neglected the underprivileged sections. "The Congress, if voted to power, would conduct a caste census so that these sections get their due," he said. Registration of will not necessary in UP: Allahabad HC

In an important judgment, the Allahabad High Court has held that the registration of a will is not necessary in Uttar Pradesh. The state government had made registration of wills mandatory from August 23, 2004. "Wills in Uttar Pradesh are not required to be registered and a will, for its non-registration, will not be void whether before or after the Uttar Pradesh Amendment Act, 2004," the court said. A division bench of Justices Siddhartha Varma and Ajit Kumar held that section 169(3) of the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act will be void to the extent it provides for the registration of a will. The high court made it clear that a will will not be considered invalid if it is not registered. The bench pronounced the verdict on Friday while disposing of a "reference" sent to it by the chief justice in a petition filed by Pramila Tiwari. The high court held that section 169(3) of the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950, insofar as it requires a will to be compulsorily registered, to be contrary to the Indian Registration Act, 1908, which makes the registration of a will optional. Hence, the court held that the amendment of section 169(3) of the 1950 Act to that extent that it requires a will to be compulsorily registered is void and accordingly, struck down the said part. The then Uttar Pradesh government had made registration of wills mandatory from August 23, 2004. In the Shobhnath case, the high court had said the registration of a will was necessary after the law came into force. But in the Jahan Singh case, it was said a will becomes effective after death and therefore, it should be registered at the time of presentation. For a clarification on the two contrary views, the chief justice had sent the reference to the division bench, which summed up the issue that "whether a will reduced into writing prior to August 23, 2004 is required to be compulsorily registered in the event the testator dies after the said date". During the proceedings, the court examined whether the state legislature, without the president's assent, could have made the registration of wills compulsory by incorporating a legal provision to this effect as wills, intestacy and succession under the Constitution are subject matters of the Concurrent List and a central law is already there on the subject of registration of wills under the Registration Act, 1908. "Sitting with you is sin": Mamata Banerjee attacks Bengal Governor

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday launched an attack on Governor CV Ananda Bose over the allegations of sexual harassment against him and said she would not visit Raj Bhavan and sit with him anymore, as "sitting with someone who has committed such misdeeds is a sin". Addressing a poll rally here, "If I am now called to the Raj Bhavan, I will not go... If the Governor wants to speak to me, he can call me on the road, and I will meet him there, After hearing about your misdeeds, sitting with you is a sin." Responding to the Governor's 'didigiri' remark, the West Bengal Chief Minister said, "The governor said 'didigiri' (high-handedness) will not be tolerated... but Governor, you should resign first. Who are you to torture women? Earlier this week, the governor claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee practices "dirty politics" and warned that he would not accept her "Didigiri". Mamata Banerjee also accused the governor of showing 'edited' CCTV footage of the alleged molestation allegation incident to prove his innocence. "Yesterday, the governor called the press and showed an edited video. I have the entire footage. I have got another video," she said. On Thursday, West Bengal Governor, CV Ananda Bose launched a new programme in which any citizen in the state, except the Chief Minister and the state police, can see the CCTV footage of the incident if they send an email to the Governor or call at the Raj Bhavan. "Hon'ble Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose has launched a programme SACH KE SAAMNE in the background of the mischievous and fabricated allegations by the police that Raj Bhavan is not sparing the CCTV footage of an incident which is under the illegal and unconstitutional investigation of the police," the notice posted by Governor Bose on his official 'X' handle stated. The Governor said that anyone who wants to see the full CCTV footage can send an email to adcrajbhavankolkata@gmail.com or governor-wb@nic.in or call at Raj Bhavan. An employee at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata last week had alleged that she was sexually harassed by Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose. The woman had approached the Hare Street police in Kolkata and lodged a complaint against the Bengal Governor. Following allegations, the Bengal Governor had issued a statement on Thursday banning the entry of the police and Minister of State for Finance Chandrima Bhattacharya into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling, and Barrackpore for "defamation and anti-constitutional media statements." "For defamation and anti-constitutional media statements against Governor, a junior gubernatorial appointee, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Department of Finance has been banned entry into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling and Barrackpore," the order said. "Congress' approach to terror always been weak, soft": Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attacked the Congress party on Saturday, claiming that the party's approach towards terror has always been "weak and soft" and that terror incidents were tolerated during the Congress' tenure without a serious response. Sitharaman said, "You saw it during the ten years of Congress rule how terror attacks were tolerated, proper response was not given. They believed in sending dossiers to Pakistan. The attitude and approach of the Congress party towards terror has always been weak and soft." Earlier on May 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the previous UPA government accusing it of giving "dossiers" to terrorists while alleging a partnership between Congress and Pakistan. Calling it a "coincidence", the Prime Minister said that the Congress party is weakening in India adding that Pakistan leaders are offering "dua" (prayers) for the party to return to power. Referring to the UPA rule as 'shaasankaal' (reign) and the current NDA rule as 'sevakaal' (service period), PM Modi accused Congress of trying to divide the country. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday asked questions from the government over the Pulwama terror attack in 2019. The Chief Minister accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to reap "political benefits" from the Pulwama incident after Indian Air Force carried out air strikes at a terror camp in Pakistan. He also raised questions over the air strikes. The terror attack on a CRPF convoy killed 40 personnel."Modiji attempted to extract political and electoral benefits from the airstrikes after the Pulwama incident. I want to ask him: What were you doing? Why did you let it happen? What did you do to boost the country's internal security? Why did you not take the help of the agencies at your disposal such as the IB and R&AW? It was your failure. Nobody knows for sure if the airstrike, as was claimed, took place. If the responsibility of ensuring the country's internal security was with us, we wouldn't have left it in anyone's hands," Reddy wrote on X. Earlier on May 4, Sitharaman accused the Congress Party of politicising the alleged obscene video case of the sitting MP and candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, Prajwal Revanna. While replying to a question about whether the row over Prajwal Revanna would affect the BJP in Karnataka during the Lok Sabha election and the ticket given to Brij Bhushan Saran's son in UP, despite Brij Bhushan facing an inquiry over allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers, Sitharam said that the BJP strongly stands against dynastic politics. The Finance Minister further alleged that the case regarding the Revanna is with the state government, which is governed by Congress, which did not act on the case for an entire year. She also said that the Karnataka government, by targeting the BJP, is now writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the case, asking to issue lookout notices against Revanna and bring him back. Speaking about Brij Bhushan Saran's son- Karan Singh getting a ticket from BJP from Kaiserganj, the Finance Minister said that the allegations have not been proved against Brij Bhushan.
