Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday claimed that people were not voting for the RJD-led opposition in Bihar as they feared that if the INDIA bloc were voted to power, the regime would put a katta (gun) to their heads.

The PM told a rally in Sitamarhi district of Bihar that the NDA was facilitating start-up enterprises, along with better education and growth in areas such as sports. Modi said, “In Bihar, there was a trend of carrying katta and telling people to ‘hands up’. But I say, in Bihar, there is no place for that anymore. Bihar needs children who dream of startups, not ‘hands up’ leaders.”

“You have given a 65-volt shock to the opposition which is now having sleepless nights,” said Modi, referring to the 65.09 per cent turnout registered across 121 assembly segments where voting was held on November 6. Addressing back-to-back rallies in Purnea and Katihar, Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the NDA would form the government in Bihar by securing over 160 seats in the 243-member House. “Half of the state has already shown the door to the Congress-RJD combine,” he claimed.

Cong rubbishes claim of NDA victory

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday rubbished Modi and Shah’s predictions of an NDA’s victory, pointing out that their “400-plus” claim in the Lok Sabha elections was way off the mark. He insisted that “all was not well” in the BJP-led coalition, as there were doubts over whether Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) president and longest-serving chief minister, would be backed for another term in office. “The Prime Minister can say anything. Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, they kept saying 400 paar,” said Kharge.
