Maharashtra BJP MLA Suresh Dhas on Saturday has demanded strict action against a Member of Parliament (MP) for allegedly pressurising the deceased in Satara doctor death case, reported the PTI.

He claimed that the MP allegedly tried to pressurise the 28-year-old woman doctor who ended her life in Phaltan taluka of Satara district in Maharashtra on Thursday.

Dhas demanded that the MP also be made an accused in the case.

The doctor, posted at a government hospital, was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan with a suicide note written on her palm, accusing a police sub-inspector (PSI) of rape and a software engineer of mental harassment.

The Satara Police have registered a case in the matter and arrested the techie from Pune. He was produced before a court that remanded him in police custody for four days.

The police have formed at least four different teams to trace and nab the cop accused of rape, an official said.

“Investigation will reveal who the MP and his aides are. If they are involved, no matter who they are, they should be made accused in the case,” Suresh Dhas, MLA of Ashti in Beed district said, according to the PTI.

As per the PTI, earlier this year, the doctor reportedly submitted a complaint to the authorities in Satara district stating that she faced threats from police officials regarding her work and taunts relating to crimes in her native district of Beed.

He relatives reportedly said that she was often pressured to alter post-mortem reports and medical test results of arrested individuals, the news agency reported on Saturday.

According to the doctor’s reply, personal assistants of an MP once asked her to speak to him over the phone. She alleged that the MP accused her of refusing to issue a fitness certificate to an arrested person because she was from Beed.

Dhas has also demanded an independent inquiry into Satara doctor's suicide and action against officials who ignored her complaints in the past.

The woman doctor was cremated on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Majalgaon MLA and NCP leader Prakash Solanke met her family, who demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Her family and colleagues said that she was mentally strong and would not have taken her life unless subjected to severe harassment. Two of her cousins, also doctors, alleged that hospital administration deliberately assigned her post-mortem duties to harass her.

Dr Santosh Hindole, General Secretary of the Maharashtra Gazetted Medical Officers Association, extended support to the family and called for strict action against those responsible.

Her family said she aspired to pursue an MD course and had taken a Rs 3 lakh loan for her MBBS, which remained unpaid.

Her uncle added that despite family advice to work in Beed, she chose Phaltan to balance work and study.
