The Konkan Railway staff rescued a missing 14-year-old boy travelling alone on Train No 12619 Matsyagandha Express on Thursday.
According to Konkan Railway, the incident came to light when Head Ticket Examiner Pradeep Z Shrike noticed the boy travelling without a ticket in the general coach while conducting routine checks. He found that the child, dressed in his school uniform and carrying a school bag, appeared to be travelling alone.
On questioning, the boy revealed that he had run away from home. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Shrike immediately alerted the commercial control and sought assistance from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri District.
Acting swiftly, the RPF team at Ratnagiri took the child into safe custody upon the train’s arrival. Further inquiry revealed that the boy had been reported missing from his school in Vasco, Goa, and his parents had circulated messages seeking help to trace him.
Konkan Railway stated that due to the vigilance of the frontline ticket-checking staff and the coordinated efforts of commercial control and RPF, the child was safely reunited with his parents.
The administration lauded the prompt action taken by the railway staff.
