Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed that government’s 'support' for the US-Israel in the ongoing conflict in West Asia is contributing to rising LPG crisis in the country.
He said that the LPG crisis in the country were a result of the supply through the Strait of Hormuz being stopped.
Kejriwal said, "There is a chance that almost 1 crore people would be unemployed because of the power shortage situation emerging."
Speaking to the media, Kejriwal said that India has always maintained a neutral position during tensions around the world. But amid the escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, the government allegedly perceived alignment with the west.
Kejriwal claimed that PM Modi appears to be submissive to US directives, likening India’s current position amid the tensions in West Asia.
Arvind Kejriwal called for policy steps that prioritise India’s energy security and economic stability, stressing that citizens should not bear the brunt of geopolitical conflicts abroad.

Impact on restaurants and hotels
According to Kejriwal, the shortage is having an immediate impact on the hospitality sector. Around 20 per cent of hotels and restaurants in Mumbai have already closed, and nearly 50 per cent are expected to shut within the next two days.
He also cautioned that the peak wedding season may be disrupted, with many couples potentially needing to postpone their weddings if the supply issue continues.
Kejriwal warned that India is experiencing a severe shortage of LPG cylinders, affecting homes, restaurants, and industries across the country.
Kejriwal said that daily LPG production has fallen by 50 per cent, while about 60 per cent of India’s LPG is imported, with 90 per cent of imports passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been disrupted due to geopolitical tensions.
Black market and foreign policy concerns
The AAP leader raised concerns about the rampant black-market trade of LPG. He linked the shortage to the recent US-Israel attacks on Iran, saying they have seriously affected supplies.
He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that India’s longstanding non-alignment foreign policy was dismantled.
