Train services were briefly halted on Saturday morning after a leopard was found grievously injured on the railway tracks near Bhagoore, close to Deolali railway station, at pole number 179/32, around 7 am. The leopard has since died.

Following the alert, the Nashik Forest Division’s wildlife rescue team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured animal away from the tracks, after which train movement was restored.

The leopard had suffered severe head injuries after being hit by a train, and one of its legs was found completely severed and lying on the tracks. Wildlife veterinarians from the Nashik division reached the site, administered first aid, and shifted the animal to the wildlife treatment centre at Mhasrul.

Forest officials said the leopard, a female aged around seven to eight months, had lost a significant amount of blood and was in critical condition. Despite all efforts, the young leopard did not survive.
