Transgenders in Mumbai practiced yoga ahead of the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. The members of 'Kinnar Seva Samaj' (Transgender Service Society) led by their leader, Uttam Baba Senapathy, had been practicing this exercise in Nagpur. The transgenders are being taught yoga by an organisation called Pathanjali Yoga Samithi. They felt that practicing yoga was important for one's well being and vowed to make it a part of their daily routine. India has been preparing for the International Yoga Day celebrations with yoga camps being held in various parts of the country to train people ahead of the big event. In a similar event, over 3,000 students of Velammal School in Chennai city participated in a yoga session. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, officials of Indian Navy underwent a yoga training session. The United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga after adopting a measure proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi had in his speech at the UN General Assembly in September last year called for recognition of such a day.
