Rumour has it that Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel has gone into hiding. And the man has taken his trophy along. Some Indian dude called Abhijeet Sawant and a lassie called Prajakta Shukre are allegedly after his prized Drivers' Championship trophy.
The duo was caught by locals of Santacruz, practicing on their mean machines, gunning down Daulat Nagar's empty road, when Prajakta's Honda City ramped into some teenagers on two wheelers who had no inking about their hotfoot aspirations. The by-standers, equally unaware of their agenda thrashed up Sawant until the cops arrived and whisked them away.
Later, a hippie-looking singer flaunting long tresses, who moonlighted as a lead actor in flicks best forgotten, tried intervening, but apparently to no avail.

Everytime such an incident occurs in India, it upsets people around the globe. The Germans, British, Japanese, Polish, Finnish and Italians get constipation when they read such reports in the newspapers. For F1 drivers like Fernando Alonso, Robert Kubica, Kamui Kobayachi, Lewis Hamilton and the rest it would be a nightmare to see not a Karun Chandok, but an amateur from India spraying champagne all over them from the podium.
And, as talented a country as we are, when it comes to flaunting motoring skills on the roads, it's not difficult to turn this nightmare into a reality. Be it a son of arms dealer with influence, films stars or the hordes of other with hot wheels, Indians have been vying for the title for long. With slack laws, corrupt officials, hostile witnesses and purchasable victims, our roads are the perfect training grounds. The love for alcohol, contempt for rules, aggressive behaviour and callous attitude towards human lives are aptitudes, which gives us edge over others. So, it is only a matter of time before we see a drunk, beggar-mowing Indian holding the F1 trophy.
So it's natural for Sebastian Vettel to go underground. Some liquor tycoon might be trying hard to bring out something like the Indian Grand Prix but we are too restless to wait for it.
The Maharastra or any other state government might increase rash driving fines but that doesn't deter us. We really want to bring that trophy home. Why else would we get behind the wheel and go full throttle giving a rat's a** about the consequences?
