Maestro to perform at a free concert in Sydney to foster goodwill after recent attacks
The concert will be held on January 16 in Parramatta, a suburb of Sydney, where many expatriate Indians reside. The Sydney Festival had already been in talks with the Oscar-winning composer of the soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire to perform as part of a programme of Indian music and theatre, but Rahman suggested a free concert as a gesture of goodwill.
Generous event
Lindy Hume, Sydney Festival Director, said yesterday: "I'm thrilled we're starting out with such a big, generous event that, in light of current tensions between India and Australia, will help to reflect our city as a welcoming, socially and culturally inclusive place."

Rahman won two Oscar awards for Slumdog Millionaire. He has also won a BAFTA award and a Golden Globe.
Time magazine named Rahman in the 2009 Time 100 World's Most Influential People list.
