A Sri Lankan-origin doctor in the UK has been accused of sexually assaulting two pregnant patients during intimate examinations and attempting to kiss a midwife on the breast
Priyantha Kandanearachchi, of Bridgend, England, allegedly squeezed a pregnant patient's bottom while he tried to examine her at Neath and Port Talbot Hospital in February last year, a General Medical Council hearing in Manchester heard.
The obstetrician, who qualified from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka in 1994, is then said to have 'groped' a midwife by pulling her to him and kissing her breast through her tunic at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, reports the Daily Mail.
An investigation later suggested there might have been 'cultural issues' over his behaviour, the panel heard.
The doctor also allegedly obtained the mobile number of the second patient and called and texted her to ask her not to pursue a complaint.
However, Dr Kandanearachchi denies misconduct.
