David Edwards, a professor of biomedical engineering, says that contrary to what our tummies may tell us, it only takes a touch of chocolate to satisfy our taste buds.
The spray, he says, makes getting a chocolate fix as easy as breathing.
The professor said, "When you breathe the chocolate into your mouth, it dissolves immediately and coats the tongue and taste buds. The spray is a new approach to eating, by breathing.u00a0 With it, we inhale food to get an experience of the flavour without eating a single calorie."
The inhalers, which cost ufffd1.99u00a0 (Rs 133) each, come in three chocolate flavours -- plain, raspberry and mint.
Critics question whether the experience of biting into a bar of chocolate can really be replaced by a pocket-sized aerosol.
Louise Thomas, a chocolate consultant who runs tasting events, said that 'whiffing' would not confer the many health benefits associated with eating dark chocolate.
"Eating the real thing is much more enjoyable," she said.
