A month after its gala opening, the observation deck of Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower, has been closed due to maintenance work, disappointing tourists thronging the skyscraper.

Ever since its launch on January 4, the tower has been an instant hit with the tourists thronging the building to climb up to the 124th floor of the 828-metre tall tower.

"Due to unexpected high traffic, the observation deck experience at the Burj Khalifa, at the top, has been temporarily closed for maintenance and upgrade," a spokesperson said.

"Technical issues with the power supply are being worked on by the main and sub-contractors and the public will be informed upon completion," he said.

Despite the ticket to the top priced at USD 27, considered too high by some, residents and tourists have been lining up in large numbers to climb to the top. It is not yet known when the observation deck will reopen to the public.

"Guests who hold valid tickets to the experience will be offered the option to re-book or receive an immediate refund. All ticket holders who wish to re-book shall be given top priority. We maintain and remain committed to the highest quality standards at Burj Khalifa," the spokesman said.
