  • Atlas on wheels: The lifeline of Mumbai, sagging under the weight of thousands of commuters during rush hour, at Kalwa on June 10, 2015
I stood on the tracks during peak hour, waiting to capture this frame. The stretch between Thane and Kalwa, where this picture was taken, is busy, with Central and trans-Harbour trains running criss-cross every few minutes. - Sameer Markande
  • Make yourself at home: A sparrow finds safe haven inside a broken street lamp in Sion on April 8, 2015
In Mumbai, where people struggle to find a roof over their heads, birds aren't spared either, since trees are cut wantonly. I saw this sparrow flutter in and out of the lamp, and clicked it from my window. - Pradeep Dhivar
  • Not a mere mortal: Shobha, the lioness, going through a taxidermy procedure at Borivali National Park on February 22, 2015
It took me three months to get this shot because getting permissions was tough. This lioness had mauled a guard to death, after which she passed away. The subject had a great story behind her. - Nimesh Dave
  • Blaze of glory: A framed picture of chief fire officer, S W Rane, who lost his life in the Gokul Niwas blaze, is carried towards the Byculla fire station on May 9, 2015
It was a poignant moment and spoke of the great sacrifices our firefighters make. Technically, clicking this photo was challenging, since the crowds were large and the sun's rays were playing spoilsport, bouncing off the glass frame. - Datta Kumbhar
  • Fly in the face of danger: A plane gets serviced at the Santacruz hangar on November 28, 2015
The humongous fan made the technician seem inconsequential. We treat flying as everyday, forgetting the engineers and technicians who are crucial cogs in the aviation wheel. - Satej Shinde
  • Two for one: Bachchan Jr. holds on to Thackeray Sr. while hugging Aaditya at a photo calendar launch on January 5, 2015
It was an awkward moment. Abhishek Bachchan wanted to shake hands with Uddhav Thackeray, but instead, got a surprise hug from his son Aaditya. - Sayyed Sameer Abedi
  • My best shot: The MSSA under-14 tennis match at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association in Colaba on October 8, 2015
I was standing atop the floodlight pole for this shot. It's one of my favourite frames. The girl, Kaira D'Souza, was playing exceptionally well. And she wasn’t the only one who dished out an ace that day. - Atul Kamble
  • Guilty pleasure: Indrani Mukherjea being produced at the Mumbai Magistrate's Court in Fort on November 20, 2015.
The expression on Indrani's face speaks a lot. Usually, pictured glamourous, this was the first time she was seen haggard. I stood on the police van step, jammed my camera between the grills and photographed her. - Onkar Devlekar
  • Like a broken record: mid-day broke the news about the shuttering of iconic music store, Rhythm House, to the disappointment of loyal fans on November 25, 2015
I was outside and then saw this flute seller walk across, playing a melodious tune, as if it were an ode to the music the store had been supporting for generations. - Shadab Khan
  • If the cap fits: Ahmed Javed dons his new hat and role as Mumbai Police Commissioner at the Mumbai police headquarters, Crawford Market on September 8, 2015
The act of wearing the commissioner's cap was symbolic, and, veered from the static of the commissioner at a table. I waited for hours to capture this moment, while clamouring policemen and journalists proved a hindrance. - Bipin Kokate
  • Tempest in a teapot: Restaurateur A D Singh walks out of his haunt, Cafe Samovar after a last cup of chai before it downed shutters at Jehangir Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda, after prolonged controversy on March 31, 2015
Emotions ran high as regulars lined up to enjoy a snack at the iconic cafe for the last time. I thought I saw a certain sadness in Singh's eyes although he was smiling. The smell of delicious food wafting from the kitchen made it difficult to keep focus on the job. - Suresh KK
  • Ah, lunch! A hoarding promoting a wildlife magazine at Bhulabhai Desai Road on March 1, 2015
The lion with its wide jaw was positioned perfectly to seem as if it was about to gobble the pigeons sitting on the street lamp. I stood in the middle the road for the perfect angle - Ashish Rane
