Maria Goretti is a complete Mumbai girl. Born in Vasai on January 26, 1972, Maria was a popular MTV VJ before she married Bollywood actor, Arshad Warsi. The couple married on February 14, 1999, after being together for 8 years. They met on the sets of a dance reality show which he was one of the judges. (All photos: Maria Goretti's Instagram account)
Maria Goretti hosted TV show Do It Sweet, and made a special appearance in the Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta movie Salaam Namaste along with her son Zeke Warsi. Apart from that, she also played a small role in a movie Raghu Romeo that was directed by Rajat Kapoor.
Maria and Arshad have two children- Zeke Warsi and Zene Zoe Warsi. Post their children, Maria stayed away from the limelight. However, the actor danseuse mum is extremely passionate about food, and cooking, which prompted her to start blogging.
In 2010, Maria Goretti started her blog - mariagorettiz.blogspot.com. And after watching Julie & Julia, she felt that it was her in the film as all she wanted to do was to cook and feed everyone.
"After my family, it's food that I am truly passionate about," says Maria Goretti. She told mid-day, in 2010, "I have always been interested in food. Cooking is my hobby and I love to shop for exotic ingredients and cookbooks. In fact, I wanted to do a travel and cooking show for quite a while, but nothing took off. Then, I thought of enrolling for a cooking course. But there are no classes in Mumbai that let you cook and learn. Everyone gives you a recipe and tells you to prepare it at home. That didn't work for me."
On Mother's Day in 2010, Maria Goretti decided that she has procrastinated long enough, and had to get going finally. "I wrote my first blog that day. Every day I have been trying to cook a dish and post my experiences online."
Maria Goretti is truly an unusual woman. For one, she's not a shopaholic and second, she prefers shopping for household items instead of bags and shoes, items that generally score high with the fairer sex. "I love buying household items like decor stuff, crockery, cutlery, etc. Clothes and jewellery don't usually catch my fancy," says Maria.
In 2016, Maria Goretti, who is known for her anchoring, acting and cooking skills, added another feather to her cap. She went on to participate in the half marathon category of Mumbai Marathon 2016 for the first time and completed it.
Maria finished the Half Marathon run in 02:12:56. Her husband-actor Arshad Warsi took to Twitter to congratulate her. "So my rock star wife, after climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, being a certified deep sea diver, is now a marathon runner. Well done @mariagorettiz," Arshad tweeted. "VJ, actor, chef, author, mountain climber, deep sea diver, marathon runner, wife, mother, friend. That's @mariagorettiz for you," he added.
Maria Goretti has now refashioned herself as a lifestyle influencer and a food chef. Very few know that the lady did her Cordon Bleu Certificate course in culinary skills and bakery from Tante Marie in London.
Maria Goretti said that she was always fond of cooking and baking and now she is happy to be able to share the tricks and tips of her art with others.
Maria Goretti has also confessed that she took up cooking seriously only after she had her kids.
For Maria, her veejaying days are behind her. She says she is done with veejaying and interviewing celebs. She also spoke in an interview previously about how she would never act with her husband Arshad again, as she feels he is an actor and not her.
Well, adding another feather to her cap, Maria Goretti has also written a book on food titled 'From My Kitchen To Yours'.
