Flying during the pandemic: Safety first for all flyers at Mumbai airport

    Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, on Wednesday said that on day three of the resumption of domestic flight's in the country, 354 departures and 288 arrivals took place till 5 pm and the numbers continue to grow.

    Taking to micro-blogging site Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted, "People who were stranded in different parts of the country are now able to fly to be with their loved ones." He further said that the numbers continue to grow as more people are flying back to their hometown and back to home.

    The domestic flights operations, which were suspended in March and April in wake of the global pandemic was resumed on May 25 with limited flight operations. On day one of the resumption of flight services, 532 flights operated with nearly 39,231 passengers travelling amid lockdown. The number saw a steady rise on Day 2 when a total of 608 aircraft ferried 41,673 passengers till 5 pm.

Kasautii Zindagii Kay actor Parth Samthaan traveled from Mumbai to Hyderabad to celebrate Eid while actress Radhika Madan flew from Mumbai to Delhi to be with her family.

    On Wednesday, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport saw a total of 50 scheduled flights, which included 25 departures and the rest arrivals, reported news agency IANS. Barring West Bengal, domestic flight services have been resumed in all states.

    In a shocking incident, Air India on Wednesday said that a passenger who was onboard an Alliance Air flight from Delhi to Ludhiana tested positive for coronavirus and a total of 41 people, including five crew members, have been quarantined.

    In a statement, airline carrier SpiceJet said that all passengers are being provided with face masks, face shields and sanitisers while the operating crew will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a clean and sanitised flying experience.

On day three of domestic flight resumption, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport saw a drop in the number of travellers flying back to their homes amid the lockdown in the city. While sharing warm hugs and posing for selfies, passengers flying out of the city followed safety precautions against COVID-19 by donning masks, gloves, face shields and even PPE kits.
