The shoot, for a Ganesh Chaturthi celebration sequence in 'Kaala Karikaalan' featuring Rajinikanth, began at 9 pm every day and went on till around 6 am.
Die-hard Rajinkanth fans spent sleepless nights in hopes of catching a glimpse of the superstar.
Curious residents from Sion-Koliwada and Antop Hill converged on Pratiksha Nagar and peered all night during the shoot from terraces, streets, balconies and windows in the hopes of spotting 'Thalaivar' Rajinikanth.
Rajinikanth's vanity van was parked at the Pratiksha Nagar bus stop.
Rajinikanth travelled to the movie set, around 100 m away, in his Audi.
Eshwaran Thevar, a resident of Sion-Koliwada, gave a glimpse of the fans' devotion to Rajinikanth. "Whenever a film of his is released, we perform a milk abhishek of his posters or film hoardings," he said.
Pratiksha Nagar resident Rinki Malhotra (32) waited both nights with her children -- aged 7 and 2 -- but didn't succeed in spotting Rajinikanth, while he shot for 'Kaala Karikaalan'.
Rinki Malhotra said she was "not too crazy about Rajinikanth", but her neighbours' excitement had rubbed off on her.
43-year-old Sangita Pawar, another Pratiksha Nagar, Sion, resident and a die-hard Rajinikanth fan, spent two sleepless nights just to have a glimpse of the actor.
'Kaala Karikaalan' originally began production with Vikram in the lead, but was shelved for unknown reasons.
