'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is a love story with a satirical flavour
'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' revolves around the need for toilets for sanitation in India and this message is conveyed through a love story in the film
'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, and produced by Aruna Bhatia, Plan C Studios and Abundantia, and presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and KriArj Entertainment
It will be the first time that Akshay Kumar will be featuring in a film with the 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' star Bhumi Pednekar
The project also marks Akshay Kumar and actor Anupam Kher's 20th film together
In the last few years, Akshay Kumar's image has undergone a transformation from that of an action star to one who chooses films which are socially relevant and delivers a message. 'Special 26', 'Airlift', 'Baby' and the upcoming 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' are cases in point.
There's also 'Pad Man' that Akshay Kumar is doing. The film is a biopic on the man who introduced affordable sanitary napkins for the benefit of women.

'Good Morning Sunshine', helmed by Sanjay Nag, stars Revathy, Rituparna Sengupta, Tejaswani Kolhapure and Shweta Tripathi, with a cameo by Shabana Azmi. What's more, the film also features Priyanka Bharti, who set off a social revolution by fleeing her marital home since it didn't have a toilet
Akshay Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' which is said to be based on Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Akshay took to Twitter to share his experience of meeting PM Modi. He posted a picture with the PM Modi and wrote, "Met PM Narendra Modi and got the opportunity to tell him about my upcoming 'Toilet-Ek Prem Katha'. His smile at just the title made my day."
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu met Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar and says that he appreciates the actors effort to spread awareness about Swachh Bharat through their forthcoming film 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'.
Suresh Prabhu took to Twitter, where he shared a series of photographs of the meeting with the two actors. He also praised Akshay and called him a fine actor and wonderful human being.
"Pleasure meeting Akshay Kumar, fine actor, wonderful human being. Appreciate his efforts to spread awareness about Swachh Bharat through cinema," Suresh Prabhu captioned the image.
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani has praised actor Akshay Kumar's upcoming release 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' and says it should be made tax free. Nihalani watched the trailer of 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' and also shared a photograph of himself with Akshay. "Watched trailer of Akshay Kumar's 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha'. Based on true incidents, it promotes Swachh Bharat. Should be made tax free. Super hit," Nihalani captioned the photo.
