Budget Session: Heated exchange between Nirmala Sitharaman and Adhir Chowdhury

A heated debate was witnessed in the Lower House of the Parliament during the Budget Session. During the question hour in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury asked Sitharaman the reason behind the "indiscriminate and arbitrary attitude" of the Centre towards Karnataka. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 05 dismissed Congess’ Adhir Chowdhury’s claims of ‘partiality’ with the non-BJP ruled states. Ms Sitharaman responding to the same explained that "devolution to states... happens as per Finance Commission recommendation", and that she had no "discretion" in allocation of tax revenues. This discussion was happening around the Interim Budget presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1st.

Suspended Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury says 'will move to SC if needed'

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on his suspension from Lok Sabha said if needed he will move to Supreme Court to revoke the suspension. “If needed, I can approach the Supreme Court. This is a new phenomenon we have never before experienced in our career in Parliament. This is a deliberate design by the ruling party to throttle the voice of the opposition. This will undermine the spirit of parliamentary democracy,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on August 12.
