5th India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue: Blinken lauds India-US ties

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on November 10. Praising India-US relations, Blinken said that it has been the strongest bilateral partnership that the US ever had. On November 09, Antony Blinken landed in India for the 5th India-US 2+2 Ministerial dialogue. The dialogue will provide a platform for top-level discussions between the US and India. The meeting will address critical bilateral and global matters, with special emphasis on developments unfolding in the Indo-Pacific region. Earlier, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin also arrived in the national capital to attend the ministerial dialogue. He was received by his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh.

Earlier, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin also arrived in the national capital to attend the ministerial dialogue. He was received by his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh. US State Secretary Blinken and Defence Secretary Austin will meet with their Indian counterparts, Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar and Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh, as well as other senior officials.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken lands in Israel to push for humanitarian

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Nov 03 landed in Israel’s Tel Aviv. Reuters reports that the US’ top diplomat has visited Israel to push for humanitarian pauses in the Gaza war. Israel has said that the Defense Forces have surrounded Gaza and the focus of its drive is to annihilate Hamas. Notably, this is Antony Blinken’s second visit to war-hit Israel in a month. This time, he will discuss steps with PM Netanyahu to minimise harm to civilians in besieged Gaza. As per Reuters, Gaza health authorities say at least 9,061 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its assault. On the other hand, Israel says Hamas killed 1,400 people and took more than 240 hostages in the attacks on Oct 7.

Amid the Israel-Hamas Conflict, US President Joe Biden's top advisers asked lawmakers to provide billions more dollars to Israel on October 31. The congressional hearing was interrupted repeatedly by a few protesters denouncing American support for Israel. The officials were heckled for backing what they called "genocide" against Palestinian citizens in Gaza. As the congressional hearing began, a line of anti-war protesters raised red-stained hands in the air. Protestors shouted slogans including, "Ceasefire now!" "Protect children of Gaza!" and "Stop funding genocide". Later, when Blinken was asked about the possibility of a ceasefire, he said that would only help Hamas regroup. Joe Biden requested $106 billion to fund ambitious plans for Ukraine, Israel, and US border security. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin testified to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

He also talked about RIC (Russia-India –China), for which was initiated by his predecessor Yevgeny Primakov. Amid polarizing war, the divide between West and Russia-China came to the fore at G20 event. While there was no joint statement, India has managed to bring world leaders closer to consensus. Both US and Russia have lauded India for its stance on war, which calls for “a cessation of hostilities, return to dialogue”.
