J&K Terror Attack: Terrorists open fire at a retired police offering prayers

Another terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Baramulla has jolted the valley. Some terrorists on Dec 24 opened fire at a retired police officer at Gantmulla in Baramulla. Notably, this J&K terror attack happened a day after an attack on two military vehicles in Rajouri sector which claimed lives of four soldiers. The slain former police officer was identified as Mohd. Shafi, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police. Terrorists opened fire on the retired police officer while he was offering prayers at a mosque, the police added. The area was cordoned off in the immediate aftermath of the incident, officials said. Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district. An operation is underway to nab terrorists in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri sector. Indian Army said that it was conducting an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector in the terror attack on Dec 21.

Rajouri Encounter: There is a sorrowful atmosphere in Naglia Gaurola, the village of Para Commando Sachin Laur, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu on November 23. Following the news of Sachin Laur's sacrifice, the community has fallen silent his sacrifice has saddened everyone in his village.  Sachin Laur was the youngest of three siblings. Vivek Laur, Sachin's elder brother, is also in the Navy. Sachin's wedding was scheduled for December 8, and preparations were underway.  Sachin’s Father Ramesh Chandra Laur recalls his last conversation with his son where Sachin said, “I’ll be coming back soon there are only two terrorists remaining, we have surrounded the house they're hiding in, as soon as the operation is finished I’ll come back.” Sachin’s Mother Bhagvati Devi said, “We were informed yesterday at 9.00 am. Sachin had last come to meet us during Raksha Bandhan.”  Ramesh Chandra Laur further informed that Sachin’s marriage was scheduled on December 08 and all the preparations had been done.

14 dead, 100 missing in Sikkim flash floods; one army jawan rescued

At least 14 people were killed and over 100 are still missing in the Sikkim flash floods, according to officials. As per government sources, people are reportedly missing from Chungthang in Mangan district; Dikchu, Singtam in Gangtok district and Rangpo in Pakyong district. Over 20,000 people have been affected by the natural disaster. More than 3,000 tourists are feared to be stranded in different parts of the state. About 12-14 workers working in the Teesta Stage 3 dam in Chungthang are still stranded in the tunnels of the dam. Meanwhile, the Indian Army started helplines for families of missing people in Sikkim, including soldiers. One of the 23 missing Army personnel was rescued Wednesday, while the rest are still reportedly missing. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose assessed the situation in flood-affected regions of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong after flash floods hit Sikkim.

An Army jawan in the Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir fired indiscriminately in his house, killing two women. His wife is injured and is critical, according to reports. Army jawan Mohammad Tariq Khan then set his own house on fire. He then climbed on the roof of a neighbour and fired indiscriminately again. He was then overpowered and taken away by the police.
