Maharashtra: Big setback to Sharad Pawar; NCP symbol goes to Ajit Pawar faction

In a big setback to the faction led by Sharad Pawar, the Election Commission on February 06 settled the dispute in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in favour of the faction led by the petitioner Ajit Pawar. Celebration took over at Ajit Pawar Camp, as EC settled dispute in NCP. The poll panel has given the NCP name and symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar in a significant decision that has a bearing on the forthcoming polls. The decision was taken after more than 10 hearings spread over more than six months. Maharashtra Dy CM and petitioner Ajit Pawar welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to EC for the decision. Meanwhile, NCP Sharad Pawar Faction leader Supriya Sule alleged an “Adrishya Shakti” behind the EC’s decision. Shiva Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi called the development “Sponsored, planned and executed by Central Govt”. Notably, test of majority in legislative wing found favour in the circumstance of the case, where both groups have been found to be working outside party constitution and organizational elections.

Operation Kaveri: Over 500 Indian nationals brought back to India from Sudan

Under its evacuation mission 'Operation Kaveri ', India has set up a transit facility at Jeddah and all the Indians have been taken to the Saudi Arabian city after their evacuation from Sudan.The first batch of 278 Indians were evacuated by Indian Navy's frontline ship INS Sumedha on Tuesday. Hours later, the first C130J heavy-lift transport aircraft of the IAF landed at Port Sudan to bring back more Indians. It was followed by evacuation by another C130J. According to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the first C-130J aircraft brought to Jeddah 121 passengers while the second plane evacuated 135.

12 big cats from South Africa at Kuno Park, total count touches 20

India welcomed the second lot of Cheetahs as the South African big cats landed in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior on February 18.  With the arrival of 12 more Cheetahs under ‘Project Cheetah’, Kuno National Park has become home to 20 fastest land animals. The spotted beauties flew from Africa on February 17 and were transferred on Indian Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster Cargo. 12 Cheetahs were released in Sheopur’s Kuno National Park by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Calling it a Mahashivratri gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM expressed his gratitude With aim to provide more time to the new members of the Cheetah family for their acclimatisation, the big cats will be quarantined for 30 days as per the international protocol. The move will not only effect the habitat but has already started showing a much-needed change among the people on wildlife.  India’s first batch of 8 Cheetahs that were welcomed in September last year and were released by PM Modi. India is aiming to get a total of 100 Cheetahs from Africa as part of its Cheetah Project.

12 Cheetahs all set to reach India on February 18 from South Africa. They will join 8 cheetahs from neighbouring Namibia. The animals were sedated and loaded into crates. 7 males, 5 females cheetahs South Africa has promised India. Cheetahs loaded onto Galaxy Globemaster C17 of IAF. Aircraft is expected to reach Madhya Pradesh at around 10 am. Cheetahs will be released at Kuno National Park in Gwalior. They will be kept in quarantine enclosures for 30 days.
