The law division of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday sent a reminder to the city collector to submit an action-taken report on manual scavenging in Mumbai, as per its directions in a letter dated May 1, as the deadline for the same had elapsed. However, mid-day has learnt that the NHRC had issued the letter to the wrong department. It was addressed to the district magistrate (city), while the area where instances of manual scavenging were reported falls under the jurisdiction of the district magistrate (suburban). Amarnath yatra resumes; over 7,100 pilgrims leave for cave shrine from base camp

Amarnath pilgrimage resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for three days following flash floods that claimed 15 lives, while the Jammu and Kashmir administration said it would get a clear picture by Tuesday about the damage. Flash floods triggered by heavy rain struck near the shrine on July 8, leaving at least 16 people dead and more than 30 missing. The annual Amarnath Yatra, which began on June 30, resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for a day due to inclement weather. Here are some pictures from the yatra:

PHOTOS: Indian Army, Air Force conduct rescue operations in Amarnath

A cloudburst near the Amarnath cave shrine have led to loss of atleast 16 lives and around 15,000 pilgrims were left stranded. The Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have began an operation at the affected area to rescue the pilgrims. The IAF and the Indian army have been conducting evacuation and rescue operations, those being rescued are are shifted to the Nilgrar helipad from the Amarnath cave, a Defence statement said.
