Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth on February 12 witnessed the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, and also RuPay card services in Mauritius, via video conferencing. The launch will enable the availability of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as for Mauritian nationals travelling to India. The extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will enable Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius and facilitate usage of RuPay Card for settlements both in India and Mauritius.

As the Uniform Civil Code Bill is to be tabled in the state legislative Assembly on February 06, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami left from his residence in Dehradun with a copy of the Indian Constitution. CM Dhami will present the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill in the State Assembly today. The bill will be tabled during the ongoing four-day special session of the assembly, which began on February 05. On February 04, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the final draft of the UCC, which proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state. When the bill becomes law, it will replace the personal religious laws that govern marriage, divorce, inheritance etc.

Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government has taken big step to implement the Uniform Civil Code. In a landmark decision, the Uttarakhand cabinet approved a draft report related to UCC on February 04. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the UCC bill will be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session. The Uniform Civil Code proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state of Uttarakhand. If implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first Indian state to adopt UCC after independence. UCC will provide a legal framework for uniform marriage, divorce, land for all citizens, irrespective of their religion. The passage of UCC bill will mark fulfillment of a major poll promise made by BJP to the people of the state.

The all-out-war of Israel against the Palestinian terror group Hamas entered day 6 on October 12. She also took a swipe at the BJP government and said, "Our party (BSP) is not against the implementation of UCC but we do not support the way BJP is trying to implement Uniform Civil Code in the country. It is not right to politicise this issue and forcefully implement UCC in the country". As per sources, during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, the Central government is considering introducing a bill on implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). UCC refers to a set of common personal laws for all citizens of India and is not based on religion in dealing with marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, among other personal matters. Amid the ongoing debate over the Centre’s Uniform Civil Code move, where various leaders from different political parties have expressed their views on the sensitive topic, Congress leader and Himachal Minister Vikramaditya Singh on July 01 backed the UCC, citing “Congress party has always contributed towards taking unity and integrity forward.” Following his comments speculations are being made that Congress is divided over the issue. On July 1st, Congress stuck to its stated stand on the uniform civil code (UCC) saying it is undesirable at this stage and noted that it will comment further if a draft bill or a report on the issue comes up.

Speaking to ANI on ‘Triple Talaq’ and ‘UCC’, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said as far as Triple Talaq is concerned, it's already illegal in the Supreme Court ruling. Furthermore, he added that Congress is not saying Triple Talaq is good, it is bad but how can you criminalise the abandonment of a wife by a husband in one faith when it is not a criminal offense in another faith?

A day after fresh clashes erupted in several parts of Northeastern state Manipur, The Indian Army and Assam Rifles remained committed to undertaking people-friendly operations. The Indian soldiers also made sure the safety of Manipuri citizens and evacuated thousands of villagers from the clash-hit areas. Indian Army had deployed mine-protected vehicles, and area domination patrols were put in place to ensure safe and incident-free evacuation. After being safely evacuated, the villagers expressed gratitude to the Indian soldiers. Manipur has been under the severe grip of violent clashes since May 3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 29 chaired a meeting with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and ministers of the state, senior leaders and officials here to assess the situation and plan further steps to restore normalcy in the region.
