Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Chief Election Commissioner announces election dates

The Election Commission of India on March 16, Saturday, announced dates for Lok Sabha elections 2024. The first phase of voting will be held on April 19, 2024. The elections will be held in seven phases. The counting of votes for all ballots will be held on June 4. The announcement was made by Chief Election Officer Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. Kumar said 55 lakh electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used.

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu requested China to intensify efforts to send more tourists. This appeal comes in the wake of a diplomatic spat with India after Maldivian MPs’ derogatory remarks. During his 5-day visit, President Muizzu described China as the “closest” ally of Maldives. Muizzu also lauded China’s Belt & Road initiative projects which were initiated by President Jinping in 2014.
