The Sky Is Pink As Flamingos Flock To Mumbai

Flamingos visited the wetlands at the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary. Mumbaikars can also see them in abundance at Airoli, Mahul, and Sewri. They visit mostly for feeding purposes from breeding sites in the Gujarat region as well as Iran. Their migration starts post monsoon when water-filled regions start drying up. Since 1994, Thane creek has been attracting flamingos in large numbers. The boat rides at Thane creek have begun from 1st January for wildlife lovers and birdwatchers, who reached the spot in large numbers. Approximately 1 lakh flamingos have migrated this year, according to a forest officer.

Attention bird-watchers and wildlife-enthusiasts! Just in case you missed feasting your eyes to the sight of pink birds in the gone-by season, you are in for a surprise. You can catch a glimpse of the pink birds at the Gorai creek in Mumbai. The Gorai wetland has turned into a feasting place for over 1000 flamingos. The birds have been spotted at the Gorai creek after decades and this has also left the locals, as well as the wildlife-enthusiasts, baffled. Most of the birds spotted are the Greater flamingos that are known for their majestic look with an attractive beak. Experts are trying to find the answers to the pattern.
