PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti had said that if Article 370 is removed then nobody will be left to give a shoulder to the tricolour. A big diplomatic win for India; 8 of the former Navy officials were freed by Qatar on February 12. Former Navy men were accused of allegedly spying on a submarine programme and were sentenced to Qatar Death penalty. Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor congratulated those who worked behind the scenes for their release. Seven of the total eight former Indian Navy personnel returned home from Qatar on February 12. The capital punishment was later commuted to an extended prison term following diplomatic intervention by MEA. Earlier, MEA had assured that it would arrange legal assistance to bring Ex-Navy veterans back home. Notably, PM Modi met with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the sidelines of COP 28 Summit in Dubai. As the interim budget for the financial year 2024-25 was rolled out on February 01, President of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) Atul Keshap lauded US and India governments for their focus on iCET sectors and budget. Atul Keshap said, “First of all, I think this is a very confident, very sober and very pro-growth budget by the government of India, and I think it signals a real sense of optimism about the economic growth of the country. It sends a very strong signal to investors about the constancy of government policy. So I think it's very positive. And I congratulate the Finance Minister, her entire team and the government.” “So it actually details really nicely with iCET (Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology), which is the initiative on critical and emerging technologies that the two governments and the US chamber launched in January of 2023. So first, for instance, there's a $12 billion fund to help develop these so-called sunrise sectors of deep tech and future tech. And there's a lot of money as well on semiconductors. I think the government of India is showing great focus on artificial intelligence, quantum computing and other iCET sectors. I led an aerospace and defence mission last week, or rather this week, to Delhi, and we had really good and encouraging meetings. So I really applaud both the US and Indian governments for their focus on the iCET sectors and this budget. It proves that that focus is backed by real money,” he added.

In a push for ‘Sabka Vikas’ south of the Vindhyas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 02 inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a bouquet of development projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore in Tiruchirappalli. Addressing the event, PM Modi in Tamil Nadu praised the culture of Tamil Nadu. “India is proud of the vibrant culture and heritage of Tamil Nadu... I had many Tamil friends and I got to learn a lot about Tamil culture from them. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on November 10. Praising India-US relations, Blinken said that it has been the strongest bilateral partnership that the US ever had. On November 09, Antony Blinken landed in India for the 5th India-US 2+2 Ministerial dialogue. The dialogue will provide a platform for top-level discussions between the US and India. The meeting will address critical bilateral and global matters, with special emphasis on developments unfolding in the Indo-Pacific region. Earlier, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin also arrived in the national capital to attend the ministerial dialogue. He was received by his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh.
