India vs Pakistan: PM Modi’s warning to Pakistan goes viral

UK-based daily newspaper, The Guardian claimed, “Indian Govt ordered targeted killings in Pakistan”. However, the Ministry of External Affairs has vehemently rejected the claims made by The Guardian in its report. Denying the allegations, Ministry of External Affairs called it a “false and malicious anti-India propaganda”. After The Guardian’s reports, PM Modi’s 2019 Lok Sabha Election speech doing rounds on social media. On Mar 04, 2019, PM Modi slammed Pakistan for its continuous cross-border terrorism and said, “Hum Ghar me Gush ke Marenge”. Defence Expert KP Fabian has rejected The Guardian’s report and echoed MEA’s statement. However, he said that The Guardian’s report will benefit the ruling BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

China ship in Mumbai: Indian agencies suspect nuclear link in Pak-bound ship

A Pakistan-bound ship coming from China was stopped at Mumbai by the Indian security agencies on March 02. The Karachi-bound ship was intercepted at Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva port. The vessel was suspected of carrying a consignment that could be used for Pakistan’s nuclear missile programmes. The ship was thoroughly examined by a team of Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The components in the cargo ship were primarily suspected of being used in Pak’s nuclear initiatives, specifically, in manufacturing some critical components for missile development. However, the DRDO is yet to submit its final report on the vessel stopped at the port.

Iran strikes Pakistan: Iran’s military kills militant group commander in Pak

Iran’s military has reportedly killed a senior Jaish-al-Adl militant group commander and some of his companions. The armed clash happened inside Pakistan’s territory a month after two countries conducted airstrikes against each other. Notably, this is first such instance after the conclusion of the recent general elections in Pakistan. Formed in 2012, Jaish al-Adl is designated as a "terrorist" organization by Iran. It is a Sunni terrorist group that operates in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan (Info Source- Al Arabiya News). The group has a history of carrying out attacks against the Iranian security forces. Weeks after the airstrikes were carried out, two nations mutually agreed to expand security cooperation. In recent times, this is the second such instance when Iran strikes Pakistan. On Jan 16, Iran had carried out airstrikes in Pakistan’s territory and then the latter withdrew its ambassador. On Jan 18, Pakistan retaliated and carried out airstrikes saying that it attacked ‘terrorist militant organisations’. Pakistan had said that they can resolve “misunderstandings” quickly but the recent strike depict the opposite.

A day after Iran launched airstrike in Pakistan’s Balochistan, Pakistan military conducts retaliatory strikes against Iran. As per Pakistan Foreign Ministry, the armed forces conducted ‘Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar’ in Iranian territory. “This morning Pakistan undertook a series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran. A number of terrorists were killed during Intelligence-based operation- codenamed Marg Bar Sarmachar,” said Foreign Ministry of Pakistan. Iran recently targeted a terror outfit Jaish al-Adl’s headquarters and launched airstrikes in Pakistan’s Balochistan. Pakistan claimed that two children lost their lives, two sustained serious injuries in the airstrikes by Iran. Pakistan also strongly condemned the attacks and termed it as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace. However, India has taken a pro-Iranian stance in the Pakistan-Iran Attack and emphasised ‘actions countries take for self-defense’.

The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan has termed the Iran airstrike in Pakistan as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace by Iran. Also, the Ministry has warned of serious consequences and said that violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty “completely unacceptable”. Soon after Iran’s military action, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry raised the issue with the Iranian Counterpart on a diplomatic level. Islamabad highlighted that Tehran carried out the airstrike despite availability of several communication channels between the two. As per Al Arabiya News, Iran attacked the headquarters of Jaish al-Adl in Balochistan, Pakistan. Formed in 2012, this group has been designated as a “terrorist” organisation by Iran and operates in Sistan and Baluchestan province.

UP police recovered 5 passports, 4 mobiles from Seema Haider's possession

In a major development, UP Police recovered two video cassettes, four mobile phones, five Pakistan-authorised passports, and one unused passport from Seema Haider. With the recent recovery of UP, speculations are being made that whether Seema is a ‘true lover’ or a Pak spy. Apart from that, ‘Room No 204’ of the Kathmandu hotel is in focus amid the ongoing probe. Central Intelligence Agencies have sought a report from Sashastra Seema Bal and UP Police on Seema Haider. The Pak National travelled through Nepal to reach India as she wished to live with her Indian partner. Seema had crossed illegally to India to live with Sachin Meena whom she befriended via an online game. However, Haider was arrested on July 4 for illegally entering India without a visa. Indian citizen Sachin Meena was put behind bars for sheltering the illegal immigrant. Seema Haider had earlier said, “I want to live here in India with Sachin. I don’t want to go back. I want my husband in Pakistan to stay with his first wife and children. I appeal to the Indian government that I do not want to go back to Pakistan. I want Indian citizenship for myself and my children. I will stay here in any condition, I just want Sachin and my children by my side. I came to India through Nepal, I tried to apply for Indian visa but could not get it.” “Intelligence agencies have asked report from SSB and UP Police to find out how she managed to cross over without being verified by police personnel at the border. We have also demanded a report from UP Police as she entered India via the UP border and stayed with her partner for many days,” senior officials said.

Pakistan witnesses 79% jump in terror attacks claiming 389 lives

Pakistan, in the first half of the current year, has witnessed an alarming rise in terror and suicide attacks claiming the lives of 389 people in the nation, Dawn reported citing Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) report. In the report, the data revealed that a total of 271 attacks had taken place in Pakistan during the period under review, which took 389 lives and injured 656 others. Last year, in the same period, Pakistan witnessed 151 attacks, causing 293 deaths and 487 injuries. The figures depict a staggering 79 per cent increase in attacks during the first half of 2023 compared to the corresponding period last year. The alarming figures indicate the situation in Pakistan, which has been accused of harbouring terror. Notably, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took a swipe at Islamabad months ago by recalling Hillary Clinton's advice. Responding to Pakistan’s Minister of State Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani, EAM Jaishankar said, “Snakes in your backyard, you can’t expect them to bite only neighbours, eventually they will bite the people who keep them in the backyard.” He also said that Pakistan was “not great at taking good advice”.
