Parliament Budget Session: Prez Droupadi Murmu’s first visit to New Parliament

President Droupadi Murmu departed from Rashtrapati Bhavan for the New Parliament building. The Parliament Budget Session 2024 began with her address to the joint sitting of both Houses. This was her first address in the new Parliament building. The last session before Lok Sabha polls expected to be held in April-May this year is to provide a total of eight sittings spread over a period of 10 days. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget 2024 on February 1.

Aliyev said in a press conference that “India and France are adding fuel to the war by providing dangerous weapons to Armenia.’ Azerbaijan's President, Ilham Aliyev, has also called India and France instigators of war. Meanwhile, the situation remains tense between Azerbaijan and Armenia due to Nagorno Karabakh dispute. Both countries remain face-to-face regarding their rights in this area, however, Armenia had control over this mountainous area in the 1990s. Meanwhile, India has supplied Armenia with weapons worth close to half a billion dollars including the Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher anti-tank missiles, rockets, and ammunition.

US Prez Joe Biden 'disappointed' on reports of Xi Jinping skipping G20 summit

India will host the G20 world leaders on September 09-10 for the final Leaders’ Summit. The stage is all set and the national capital New Delhi is decked up to welcome world leaders. World leaders including Joe Biden, Rishi Sunak, Anthony Albanese will show their presence at much-awaited G20 Summit. Ahead of the much-anticipated G20 Leaders’ Summit a few World leaders will skip the Summit. Chinese Premier Xi Jinping likely to skip the G20 World Leaders’ Summit 2023 in India. Reacting to this, US President Joe Biden said that he is “disappointed” by reports of Xi skipping the meet. Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that he won’t attend the summit in New Delhi next week. On Aug 28, Putin dialed PM Modi and confirmed that FM Sergey Lavrov will represent Russia. India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023. The G20 members represent around 85 per cent of the global GDP. It also represents over 75 per cent of the global trade and about two-thirds of the world’s population.

PM Modi-Prez Putin hold telephonic conversation ahead of G20 meet; Delhi lit up

Days ahead of the G20 summit in Delhi, PM Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation on Aug 28 with Russian President Vladimir Putin. President Putin conveyed his inability to attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi. He informed that Russia would be represented by its Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. PM Modi and Prez Putin also exchanged their views on regional and global issues of mutual concern. Notably, PM Modi thanked President Putin for consistent support for all initiatives under India’s G20 Presidency. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch. Meanwhile, several areas of the national capital lit up on August 28 ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit. The G20 Summit is being organised in Delhi from September 9-10. Many heads of state and diplomats including US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to be attending the G20 Leaders' Summit. The Delhi government has issued a notification for public holiday on September 8, 9 and 10, in view of the G-20 Summit scheduled to be held in the national capital on those dates.

August 16, 2023 marks the fifth death anniversary of former PM and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee. President Droupadi Murmu and VP Jagdeep Dhankhar paid floral tributes at the 'Sadaiv Atal' memorial today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached the 'Sadaiv Atal' memorial to pay homage to the former PM. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid tributes to the former PM. Born in Gwalior in 1924, Vajpayee was BJP’s face for decades and was the first non-Congress PM to serve a full term in office. Vajpayee breathed his last on August 16, 2018, after a prolonged illness.

Papua New Guinea PM James Marape personally reached the airport to receive him in the evening breaking the protocol. PM Marape touched PM Modi’s feet and sought his blessings upon his arrival at the island nation. He attended the FIPIC Summit which witnessed participation from leaders of 14 countries. PM Modi then visited Australia on May 22 and attended an Indian community event at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. As he arrived at jam-packed Arena to address a community event, PM Modi was welcomed with thunderous applause and loud cheers. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called PM Modi “the boss” while addressing the community event. Albanese's remark came as he compared the crowd for PM Modi with legendary rockstar Bruce Springsteen who is also known as “The Boss” among his fans
