Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Rahul Gandhi holds grand roadshow in Wayanad

Congress sitting MP and candidate Rahul Gandhi conducted a roadshow in Wayanad - his constituency before filing his nomination on April 03. His sister and party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also accompanied him throughout the Roadshow He was also accompanied by AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal and Deepa Das, AICC in-charge of the National Students' Union of India Kanhaiya Kumar as well as Leader of Opposition in the state assembly VD Satheesan and KPCC acting president M M Hassan. Rahul Gandhi received a nice welcome in his constituency with thousands of people out on the streets holding placards, banners and party flag as they cheered for their leader. On 20th of February, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ reached UP’s Raebareli. Congress and BJP workers confronted each other with loud slogans during the rally. During his speech, Rahul Gandhi made a derogatory remark that sparked controversy. While addressing the public in Amethi, he said that "the youths of UP were on a trip after boozing by night. I went to Varanasi and I saw people lying on roads drunk. Furious by his remark BJP workers purified Rahul Gandhi’s speech area with ‘Ganga Jal’. On the other hand, UP Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh lambasted Rahul Gandhi and also appealed to him to apologize. Meanwhile, agitated WCD Minister Smriti Irani raised questions on Congress MP’s upbringing. Notably, a massive protest was staged by BJP workers during his rally in Amethi too on Feb 19. Carrying Lord Rama’s flags, the workers raised ‘Modi-Modi’, ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and ‘Rahul Gandhi Go Back’ slogans.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on February 16 addressed youths in Bihar’s Mohania and hit out at the BJP-led Central government saying that this government wants them to become contractual labourers. Rahul Gandhi has drawn a parallel between ‘Agniveer’ scheme to contractual labourers. He said, “They (Centre) don’t want to use India’s Defence Budget for the training and security of jawans...You will neither be recruited in the Army nor Railways or any Public Sector Unit. Why? The Government wants you to become contractual labourers. They have given the name 'Agniveer' but he is a contractual labourer. That is the truth. They can sack him, throw him out anytime they want, without asking him, without pension or any help.”

 Amid the ongoing tension in the country over ‘Khalistan’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to Golden Temple in Amritsar on Oct 02. The Congress leader paid obeisance at the temple and also offered ‘Sewa’ at the Golden Temple. Meanwhile, this brought a chance for the BJP leaders to pinch Congress over the 1984 ‘Operation Blue Star’. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma invoked ‘Operation Blue Star’ to mock Rahul Gandhi’s service as the auspicious temple. Talking to ‘X’, CM Himanta said, “Grandmother sprayed bullets and Grand child is doing sewa” Launching a scathing attack on Assam CM, Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely called it ‘Vinash Kale Viprit Buddhi’. On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army, under ‘Operation Blue Star’ stormed into the Golden Temple on orders of then PM Indira Gandhi. The order was issued to contain Sikh militancy under the leadership of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab. The Operation was heavily criticized and led to her assassination by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her New Delhi residence on October 31, 1984.
