First Agniveer dies at Siachen Glacier, mortal remains being brought to his home

People gathered at the residence of Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman in Pimpalgaon Sarai village of Buldhana district. He is the first Agniveer to have laid down his life in operations. He was deployed in the world’s highest battlefield Siachen Glacier. His mortal remains are being brought to his residence today. Hundreds of people gathered to console the grieving family members on his final journey.

Meet Shiva Chauhan, First Woman Officer Deployed At The Highest Battleground

Captain Shiva Chauhan has become the first woman army officer to get operationally deployed on the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield. The officer was deployed at the Kumar post, located at an altitude of around 15,600 feet in Siachen, on Monday for a period of three months after she underwent rigorous training, Army officials said. The Leh-based Fire and Fire Corps tweeted the picture of the officer, calling her feat as ‘Breaking the Glass Ceiling’. Captain Chouhan will be leading the team of Sappers entrusted with the task of carrying out various combat engineering assignments, the Army said. The officer underwent rigorous training at the Siachen Battle School where she trained alongside the officers and men of the Indian Army, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday went to meet Siachen avalanche lone survivor Lance Naik Hanumanthappa at the Army's Research and Referral Hospital. He is the lone survivor out of group of ten Indian soldiers who were wiped out by an avalanche in the Siachen last week.
