Tovino Thomas' Malayalam film, 2018, has been chosen as India's official entry to the 96th Academy Awards. The survival drama based on the 2018 Kerala floods was directed by Jude Anthany Joseph and released earlier this year. A jury headed by noted director Girish Kasaravalli on Wednesday announced that 2018 has been India's selection for the Oscars in the Best International Film category. 4 seafarers working with a Navi-Mumbai-based company called TAG, have been living in deplorable conditions on-board two tugboats – TAG Rajvir and TAG Laxmi – since May last year, when their company became bankrupt. Though their contracts expired in June 2019, they can't leave the boats as the matter is sub judice. Journalist Diwakar Sharma covered the story for Mid-Day.
