On the occasion of Republic Day 2024, President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the National Flag at Kartavya Path. The ceremony was followed by National anthem and 21 Gun salute. President Droupadi Murmu was given the national salute by the President's Bodyguard at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan. French President Emmanuel Macron accompanied President Murmu. The Republic Day parade 2024 with 'Aavahan'. For the first time ever, the parade is being heralded by over 100 women artists playing Indian musical instruments. Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon at 6:04 PM on Wednesday, 23rd August. PM Modi had joined virtually from Johannesburg, where he is attending the 15th BRICS Summit. On September 30, The newly-appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Lt General (Retd) Anil Chauhan laid the wreath at National War Memorial in Delhi. The new CDS was appointed on September 28. He had retired as the Eastern Army Commander in May last year and was serving as the Military Advisor to the National Security Council. Lt General Anil Chauhan will be the 2nd CDS of the country after General Bipin Rawat. Gen Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in December 2021 in Tamil Nadu.
