Unseasonal rain with lightning and thunderstorm lashed parts of Mumbai in the wee hours of Thursday, bringing some respite from the hot and humid weather in the city. Mid-day's photographer Sameer Abedi captures moments as the city witnessed the unseasonal rain.

Mumbai on Thursday witnessed what has been described as unseasonal rainfall. Other districts of Maharashtra also witnessed raifall this evening. Videos of the rainfall in the city surfaced across social media sites. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier said that a thunderstorm accompanied with light to moderate rainfall was expected today in Mumbai. Mid-day's Photojournalists -- Pradeep Dhivar and Atul Kamble -- captured moments as the city witnessed rainfall.

After a spell of dry weather and sweltering heat, Mumbai witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall across the suburbs on December 1. Amid the unseasonal rains, the IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane. The intensity of rainfall increased during the night which led to a considerable fall in temperature. The day temperature at India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius — 8 degrees Celsius below normal making Wednesday the coldest day of the season so far.
