Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth on February 12 witnessed the launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, and also RuPay card services in Mauritius, via video conferencing. The launch will enable the availability of UPI settlement services for Indian nationals travelling to Sri Lanka and Mauritius as well as for Mauritian nationals travelling to India. The extension of RuPay card services in Mauritius will enable Mauritian banks to issue cards based on the RuPay mechanism in Mauritius and facilitate usage of RuPay Card for settlements both in India and Mauritius.

Talks around taking back the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir have again gained the limelight in India. Political experts speculate that the Modi govt might take some actions soon to take back the PoK. The Narendra Modi Govt is reserving 24 seats for Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in the J&K Assembly. Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed in the Parliament that “Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is ours”. Notably, the Supreme Court of India on December 11 upheld the abrogation of Article 370. Also, the Apex Court has directed the Election Commission of India to conduct elections in J&K by September 2024. Soon after SC’s verdict, PM Modi took to ‘X’, shared a post in Urdu, and called it a “ray of hope for Naya Kashmir”.

A communal clash broke out between two groups in Haryana's Nuh district on July 31st. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij, and former state CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda reacted to the Nuh violence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on June 26 while addressing an event in Jammu called out Pakistan for spreading terrorism and further affirmed the government’s stance over the status of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and said POK was and will remain part of India. He said, “Ever since India became independent, it has been a constant effort by many anti-India forces to create an atmosphere of instability within India. Efforts are being made continuously on a large scale from the soil of Pakistan. Our govt started effective action against terrorism and for the first time, not only the country but the world came to know what is the meaning of zero tolerance against terrorism.” “A large part of Jammu and Kashmir is under the occupation of Pakistan.
