Team India to host Afghanistan for one Test, three ODIs in June

Afghanistan men's cricket team will tour India for a Test and three One-Day International (ODI) against the Men in Blue from June 6 to June 20, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday. In a media release, the BCCI released the itinerary for the Afghanistan men's team tour of India. The one-off India vs Afghanistan Test is scheduled in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, 2026. The ODI series will begin on June 14 in Dharamshala, with the second ODI slated to take place on June 17 in Lucknow, followed by the final ODI in Chennai on June 20. All ODIs are scheduled to start at 1:30 PM IST. Team India, currently in action in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, have qualified for the semifinals of the tournament. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Men in Blue secured their place in the final four after registering a five-wicket win over two-time T20 WC champions West Indies in both teams' do-or-die Super 8s clash on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The match was headlined by opener Sanju Samson's heroic 50-ball 97* that guided India to chase down the 196 runs target after being 41/2 in 4.3 overs earlier in the chase. In the match, India won the toss and elected to field first. Roston Chase (40 in 25 balls, with five fours and a six) and skipper Shai Hope (32 in 33 balls, with three fours and a six) put on an opening stand of 68 runs for first wicket, but WI slipped to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, despite a cameo by Shimron Hetmyer (27 in 12 balls, with a four and two sixes). It was the pair of Jason Holder (37* in 22 balls, with two fours and three sixes) and Powell (34* in 19 balls, with three fours and two sixes) who put on a fiery stand of 76 runs in 35 balls, taking WI to 195/4 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah (2/36 in four overs) was India's leading bowler, with Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya dropping a spell of 1/40 in four overs each. In the run-chase, India was reduced to 41/2 within the powerplay. It was a 58-run stand between Samson (97* off 50 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (18), which brought the chase back on track. Then Sanju went on to stitch partnerships with Tilak Varma (27 in 15 balls), Hardik Pandya (17) and Shivam Dube (8*), taking India to a five-wicket win. T20 WC 2026: Pathan raises a concern ahead of Team India's clash against England

In the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, Team India emerged victorious by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Following the victory, the “Men in Blue” have sealed their spot in the semi-final of the global showpiece. They will now lock horns with England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Ahead of the semi-final match against the “Three Lions”, former cricketer Irfan Pathan has raised a concern for Team India. He feels that swashbuckling Abhishek Sharma’s poor form will be a concern for the hosts. “One concern is Abhishek Sharma's form again. After scoring that fifty, it felt like he would continue making runs, but when he went for that shot, his back knee was bent too much, and his body weight was falling backwards. Ideally, more weight should have been on the front foot, as that suits him better. He will need to pay attention to that,” he said on his YouTube channel. The former cricketer then said that skipper Suryakumar Yadav needs to score runs against bigger teams. “Suryakumar will need to score runs against bigger teams, and that is something he must keep in mind,” said Pathan. Considering that Wankhede is the home ground for the skipper, the cricket fans will keep a tab on him to deliver a big knock. Additionally, Team India's think tank will also expect Ishan Kishan to find his form back. It will be interesting to see if the "Men in Blue" manage to defeat the "Three Lions" in the semi-final 1 of the mega tournament at the Wankhede Stadium. Before Team India's match, South Africa and New Zealand will clash against each other in the semi-final 1 of the marquee event. The match will be played on March 4 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The title clash of the global showpiece is scheduled to be played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 'Virat Kohli will forever be the icon and the hero of this team': Mo Bobat

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is all set to kick off from March 28. Ahead of the league, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) director of cricket, Mo Bobat, heaped praise on the franchise's stalwart Virat Kohli. He said Kohli will forever be RCB's icon, considering his record in the cash-rich league. "Virat Kohli, obviously, I think he'll forever be the icon and the hero of this team. I don't think that's going to go away, and he deserves that. His track record is incredible,” he said. “I remember at one point last season seeing his stats when he got to however many runs it was close to 9,000 runs, 18 years wearing just one shirt. That's 500 runs a season. It's actually ridiculous. For seven years or something like that, some players would be happy with a 500-run season. He averages 500 runs a season for 18 years. It's actually ridiculous. So, you can't ignore that,” added Bobat. Indian Premier League: Virat Kohli's statistics So far, having represented RCB in all 18 seasons of the IPL, Kohli has garnered 8661 runs with a top score of an unbeaten 113 runs. He is also the league’s leading run-scorer, with eight centuries and 63 half-centuries. His standout performance was in 2016, setting a record of 973 runs in a single season. In the 2025 edition of the IPL, RCB, under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, clinched the title. Speaking about Patidar’s captaincy, Bobat hinted at the 32-year-old cricketer continuing as captain in the near future, adding that both him and head coach Andy Flower have taken the former RCB skipper Kohli into confidence. “Andy and I met him (Kohli) in London not long after the 2024 season and talked about that. He's always ready to step forward and lead. He doesn't need a second invitation. But we spoke at that stage about how this decision is not just about us three as people. It's about RCB more broadly as a franchise. Its leadership maybe even beyond us. We might not be here and Rajat might be continuing as captain. So it's a moment in time where we have to take that responsibility quite seriously,” said the RCB’s director of cricket. (With PTI Inputs)

T20 World Cup 2026: Rohit Sharma recalls memories of India-Pakistan contests

In the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, Team India managed to secure a dominating victory by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. With this, the "Men in Blue" have sealed their spot in the semi-final of the global showpiece. They will lock horns with England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in England. Earlier in the tournament, Team India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan by 61 runs in the group stage match. Team India veteran Rohit Sharma reflected on the intense rivalry between India and Pakistan. He picked the 2007 final against Pakistan as his favourite match. "My favourite T20 World Cup match against Pakistan was definitely the final we played, nothing can beat that. We went on to win the World Cup," said Rohit. He then recalled the match against the "Green Shirts", which ended in a bowl-out. "In that same year (2007), we also played a league game against Pakistan, which was the only match in the tournament decided by a bowl-out, and we came out on top there as well. So in 2007, both World Cup games were special," recalled the 38-year-old cricketer. Ahead of the Suryakumar Yadav-led men's upcoming fixture against the "Three Lions", the hosts will expect their swashbuckling opening batsman Abhishek Sharma to deliver a big knock. On the other hand, after performing well in the initial matches of the tournament, in-form Ishan Kishan is also struggling to showcase his skills with the willow. Before Team India's match, South Africa and New Zealand will clash against each other in the semi-final 1 of the marquee event. The match will be played on March 4 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Jasprit Bumrah (Pic: File Pic)

Not Samson’s knock but THIS is Bumrah's favourite moment from clash against WI

In the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against the West Indies, Team India registered a victory by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Sanju Samson was the star player as he delivered a match-winning knock for the "Men in Blue". Facing 50 deliveries, the right-handed batsman garnered an unbeaten 97 runs, laced with 12 boundaries and four maximums. Despite the match-winning knock from Samson, Jasprit Bumrah, when asked about his favourite moment of the game, picked Shivam Dube’s shots and explained the reason behind it. "The two fours that Dube hit. Nobody will really appreciate that. But the people who really know cricket know that two fours really released the pressure from us. Because sometimes, 9-8 runs in the last over, it can get tricky sometimes," he said. Dube registered an unbeaten eight runs in four balls, with the help of two boundaries. Earlier in the first essay of the game, Bumrah returned with the figures of two wickets for 36 runs in four overs. Reflecting on his spell, the pacer said that the aim was to make run-scoring as difficult as possible. "The wicket was holding up, so we wanted to use our variation. We didn't want to bowl too fast because that was an easy option. Hit our back of length, use our change of pace. So we wanted to make run scoring as difficult as possible. And today was a good day when I got some wickets," said the 32-year-old cricketer. Following the victory, the "Men in Blue" have sealed their spot in the semi-final of the global showpiece. They will lock horns with England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The title clash of the global showpiece is scheduled to be played on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. T20 World Cup 2026 | 'It is Sanju's special Samson...': Ravi Shastri

In the T20 World Cup 2026 match against the West Indies, Team India emerged victorious by five wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. During the match, Team India's wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson delivered a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 97 runs off just 50 deliveries. His knock was laced with 12 boundaries and four maximums. Speaking about his knock, former cricketer Ravi Shastri heaped praise by saying it was a special knock from the right-handed batsman. "It is Sanju's special Samson today, and that innings was special, because just his calmness, his composure, and just the sublime touch right through that innings," he said. He then said that Samson has made millions of people happy after delivering a stupendous knock in the all-important clash of the ongoing marquee event. "This was not a league game. This was a knockout contest. People's expectations of Samson have been huge right through his career. No one has questioned his talent, but they have been disappointed with his consistency. He brought everything to the fore today and made millions around the globe happy," said Shastri. Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was also nothing short of praise. He also labelled Samson as a world-class player. "He is a world-class player. We all know how good a player Sanju is. I actually thought that he never accelerated the innings. It was just a very, very normal cricketing shots, and I never saw any muscling the ball as well, and that is the kind of talent he has," said Gambhir. T20 World Cup 2026, IND vs WI: Match summary Following the victory, the "Men in Blue" have sealed their spot in the semi-final of the global showpiece. They will lock horns with England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India's bowlers were led by Jasprit Bumrah, who returned figures of 2/36. In reply, India overcame an early setback before a series of partnerships guided them home. Sanju Samson played a key role in the chase, stitching crucial stands with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, as India sealed a five-wicket victory to progress further in the tournament.

J and K’s Auqib Nabi is all smiles after taking a Karnataka wicket during the Ranji Trophy final recently. Pic/PTI

A phenomenon called Auqib Nabi

Auqib Nabi is the most visible individual gain coming out of the Ranji Trophy. Seldom in recent memory has one player captured as much public attention for his Ranji Trophy performance. His biggest achievement is that in a nation largely fixated on the national team’s performance, he got us to log live into the match to check whether he would bowl Karnataka out and get J&K to take a first innings lead in the final.  Nabi’s season stands out as one of the most statistically unique campaigns in the history of the Ranji Trophy, particularly for a fast bowler in a competition dominated by spin. He finished the season with 60 wickets.  Fine preparation That Nabi paired volume with efficiency suggests preparation beyond instinct. What makes Nabi’s season even more remarkable is not merely that he entered elevated statistical company — but that he did so in an era structurally stacked against his craft. The Ranji Trophy, across nine decades, has been a tournament where spin has often dictated narrative.  There is another layer. Modern Indian domestic cricket is more compressed and competitive than ever before. With increased video analysis, opposition data pools and central scouting, surprise has diminished as a weapon. To achieve a bowling average of 12.56 in this analytical age is to defy not just opposition technique but opposition preparation as well.  Always on the attack   He dismissed 11 specialist batters for ducks this season. He took a wicket in his first two overs in 12 of 17 innings. When a fast bowler strikes early he alters the geometry of a contest. Scoreboards tighten. Dressing rooms grow restless. Captains shift fields from containment to attack.  While these numbers are incredible, the real story is that he delivered these as a part of a team not used to winning. Nabi has reminded us that impact is not only what trends; it is what endures across overs, across days. His numbers will sit in record books. But his larger achievement is narrative: he shifted national attention from the glare of global tournaments to the grit of the domestic grind.  60No. of wickets for Auqib Nabi in this Ranji Trophy season — the highest for any bowler 26No. of wickets for Auqib Nabi in his last three matches 63Percentage of Nabi’s wickets which are of batsmen in the top six 11No. of specialist batters dismissed for a duck by Nabi 03Nabi is only the third pacer ever to claim 60 or more wickets in a Ranji season after Jaydev Unadkat (67) and Dodda Ganesh (62)

Samson's super 97 powers India into T20 World Cup semi-finals

Sanju Samson has been one of the great enigmas of Indian cricket, but when it came to the crunch, the wicketkeeper-batter produced the most important knock of his life to muscle India to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup. In a gripping final Super Eight match of the competition, the experienced right-hander slammed a magnificent unbeaten 97, an innings of absolute authority and undisputed class, to carry India to a five-wicket victory with four deliveries to spare against a spirited West Indies at Eden Gardens on Sunday night.Put in by Suryakumar Yadav on a terrific batting strip, the two-time former champions piled up 195-4, perhaps no more than par for the course, and must have felt they were in control when India lost Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan inside the first five overs with only 41 on the board. Suryakumar helped Samson, firing on all cylinders, steady the ship with a stand of 58 and Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya weighed in with cameos, but amidst mounting tension, it was left to Samson to deliver the killer blows. With seven needed off the last over, he nervelessly smashed Romario Shepherd for a six and a four to seal the deal. WI’s Jason Holder (left) and Rovman Powell during their unbeaten 76-run stand. Pic/PTI Earlier on, the new-look West Indian pair of skipper Shai Hope and Roston Chase stitched together 68 for the first wicket. West Indies were setting the base for an explosive finish with a plethora of power-hitters to come by reaching 100 after 11.1 overs when India fought back with ferocity through their ace in the pack, Jasprit Bumrah. Held back so that he could bowl three of his overs in the second half of the innings, Bumrah dismissed the well-set duo of Hetmyer and Chase in the same over, and when Pandya got rid of Rutherford with the first ball after the second drinks interval, India seemed to have controlled the lashing. But Jason Holder and Rovman Powell had other ideas. They freed their arms and went after the bowling, riding on a 24-run over from Arshdeep Singh to set the tone for a grandstand finish. Their unbroken alliance of 76 came off just 35 deliveries, but once Samson got going, it was just not enough. Raza’s heroics 73 in vain as South Africa survive Zimbabwe scare

Sikandar Raza singled-handedly kept Zimbabwe in the game with a special all-round performance before a shaky South Africa were able to steady the ship for a five wicket win in their final Super Eights game of the T20 World Cup here on Sunday. After opting to bat, Raza made a sublime 73 off 43 balls in an otherwise ordinary batting display as South Africa limited Zimbabwe to 153 for seven. After removing the dangerous duo of Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock in his first two overs in the powerplay, Raza returned to dismiss a rampaging Dewald Brevis (42 off 18 balls) leaving the Proteas at 101 for five in the 11th over. With another 53 runs needed and the odd ball keeping low, South Africa felt the pressure but Tristan Stubbs (21 not out off 24 balls) and George Linde (31 not out off 21 balls) were able to get the job done in 17.5 overs. Losing their first three wickets inside the powerplay, Brevis and David Miller did what they are known for to take the wind of Zimbabwe's sails. A barrage of big hits and all of a sudden the momentum was back with South Africa. There were few more hiccups in the run chase but Stubbs and Linde ensured South Africa carry their unbeaten run into the semifinal against New Zealand in Kolkata. Zimabwe, on the other hands, lost all their three games in the Super Eights phase after topping the group stage. Despite the loss, Raza stole the show in the afternoon game at Ferozshah Kotla. The Zimbabwe captain got the fours and sixes at will while the other batters struggled to find the same flow against high quality pace attack. The batters, barring Raza, tried to attack the likes of Kwena Maphaka, Anrich Nortje and the in-form Lungi Ngidi but were unsuccessful. Maphaka and Nortje are not even part of the usual South Africa eleven with Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj rested from the inconsequential game heading into the semifinal. Having done well to reach the Super Eights, Zimbabwe found it tough to replicate their league stage success against the bigger teams. Raza knows what they need to do to consistently challenge the established teams but they are not there yet. Power-hitting is a critical aspect of the shortest format and the team needs more batters like Raza to put high quality attacks under pressure. On Sunday, openers Tadiwanashe Marumani (7) and Brian Bennett (15) began well against left-arm spinner George Linde but could not force the pace against the pacers. Left-handed Marumani saw his leg-stump rattled as he attempted to smash left-arm pacer Maphaka out of the park. Bennett has been consistent at the top of the order but when he tried to dispatch Anrich Nortje over mid-off he was not able to clear the fielder. However, Raza batted like a man possessed after being hurried by Nortje on his very first ball. He pulled Corbin Bosch over deep backward square leg for a six besides collecting a couple of fours in the sixth over, taking Zimbabwe to 45/2 in six overs. Raza kept getting the big hits at will while he was disappointed to see wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end. The Zimbabwe captain displayed that he was a cut above the rest in the Zimbabwe batting line up by backing away to Nortje for a drive past mid-off and a flat six over deep mid-wicket on the following ball in the eighth over. He went on to make a well deserved half-century off 29 balls but the support act never came, leaving Zimbabwe with a below par total. 73No. of runs scored by Sikandar Raza on Sunday — the highest individual score by a Zimbabwe skipper in T20 World Cups This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Sri Lanka head coach Jayasuriya quits early after T20 World Cup exit

Sanath Jayasuriya has decided to step down as Sri Lanka's head coach in the wake of his team's abysmal performance in the T20 World Cup. Co-hosts Sri Lanka lost all their games in the Super 8s stage. In the preliminary stage they were beaten by Zimbabwe and recorded wins against Australia and the lowly Oman and Ireland. "My contract ends in June but I will go before that, I will be talking to Sri Lanka Cricket to decide my stepping down," Jayasuriya told reporters after Sri Lanka lost to Pakistan on Saturday. "We should have done better, I am sorry and I apologize to fans," Jayasuriya, the player-of-the-tournament when Sri Lanka won the 1996 ODI World Cup, said.He said Sri Lanka was badly hampered by the injuries to Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana and Kusal Mendis. "Their replacements could not perform to the levels required. Hasaranga was my best player you can't easily find a replacement for him," Jayasuriya said blaming both bowler and batter inconsistency for the poor show. Over the one-and-a-half years of his services Sri Lanka improved their rankings across formats, Jayasuriya said. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Australia skipper Alyssa Healy celebrates her century against India at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday. Pic/Getty Images

Healy’s fairytale farewell as Australia sweep India 3-0 in ODI series

Skipper Alyssa Healy thanked the cricket gods for an enjoyable farewell as she signed off from the ODI's in style with a blistering 158 that anchored Australia's 185 run-win over world champions India in the third and final match here on Sunday. It was a fairy-tale swansong for the 35-year old, whose 158, combined with Beth Mooney's unbeaten 106, powered Australia to a mammoth 409 for seven. India were bowled out for 224 in 45.1 overs, losing the three match series 0-3. "I just think what a ridiculous sport we play that it can kick you down to so many times and then give you opportunities like it has today," Healy, who was adjudged Player of the Match, said during the post match presentation. "I've hated every milestone match, so today was just an opportunity to go out and enjoy it. And it was, one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had. So thanks for the cricket gods for that. And yeah, that's a nice way to sign off in the yellow." The wicket-keeper batter also chipped in with the ball, sending down two overs for 12 runs in her final ODI appearance. Healy will bring the curtain down on her illustrious international career after the one-off pink-ball Test in Perth against India from March 6. So which was more fun, scoring 158 or bowling? "Oh, bowling for sure. It didn't take much to get talked into either," she quipped. "I heard my name mentioned once and I said right, but just to finish the ODI leg the way we did, yeah makes me really proud. And looking forward to heading to the WACA now and get stuck into the pink ball." Healy also lauded Mooney's contribution and expressed confidence in the next generation. "Beth Mooney's been outstanding. The future's bright for our team. I'm looking forward to watching them go about their business over the next couple of years leading into that next one day World Cup. "I think they're going to do some fantastic things yet again." On handing the cap to Lucy Hamilton, Healy said: "I was honestly fine this morning and then when I was writing it all down and realising probably what it means to debut and get that cap made me realise how special and how lucky I've been over the last 15 years to have done it as many times as I've had. So, that was a really special experience." "She's got a really bright for the future ahead, I would have loved her to take a wicket tonight but to get a yellow cap, hopefully another 15 years in it, it was really special." Talking about the Test match, she said: "To put ourselves in a position, now we don't have to win, I think it's obviously a great sign for the series, but also we're going there to win." "Pink ball at the WACA, we've never experienced that before. The WACA wicket has done some interesting things for us in Test cricket and white-ball cricket over the last few years. "So, looking forward to seeing what conditions present. But any time this group gets to wear the baggy green is extra special. So I'm looking forward to doing that." We kept making too many mistakes: India skipper India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted her side was outplayed and pointed to repeated mistakes in the ODI format. "Overall we didn't play good cricket. In T20, we were doing all the things right and in ODI, we didn't play good cricket. That that is something which cost us. "It's a long game and you have to keep doing the right things again and again. I think we kept making too many mistakes. "And credit goes to the Australian team also, they really played good cricket and they didn't give us a chance to bounce back." Looking ahead to the one off Test, she stressed the need to remain positive. "A lot of learnings for us and definitely we will go back and think how we have to go about in the ODI cricket. Keeping everybody in good space of mind, I think that is something which is very important," she said. "I know we have very less time to prepare for us but I think now it's only about believing in yourself and keeping yourself a good frame of mind and doing the right thing for the team."
