England vs South Africa ODI washed out

Rain caused the abandonment of the first one-day international between South Africa and England at the Wanderers Stadium (left) yesterday.

After more than 20mm of rain on Thursday, steady rain yesterday led to the match being called off two-and-a-half hours after the scheduled start when it became obvious that it would be impossible even to play a shortened game. A minimum of 20 overs a side is necessary for a result to be achieved.
