Pakistan's new chief selector Mohsin Khan says Shoaib Akhtar lacks discipline, fitness and performance
There's bad news for Shoaib Akhtar if he is hoping for a comeback into the Pakistan team: Mohsin Khan, the newly appointed chief selector won't pick him.
"Shoaib (35) lacks discipline, fitness and performance. There is no place in the team for those who lack in all these three departments. Shoaib is working very hard, but has proved unfit time and again. Hence, there is no immediate place for him in the side," Mohsin said over the phone.
The Pakistani selectors will soon pick the squad for the World Twenty20 to be held in the Caribbean in April-May. Pakistan won the last edition of the tournament held in England last year.
Advantage
Their players would be fresh considering none of them will feature in the gruelling Indian Premier League which kicks off in Mumbai on Friday.
"I have ensured with the PCB chairman that at least one selector is always on tour and he will be a member of the touring selection committee. He will have a strong say in the final XI," added Mohsin.
It can be recalled that Mohsin Khan, who turns 55 next week, retired from the game to pursue a career in films. He married Bollywood actress Reena Roy and had a short career in the Indian film industry until he returned to Pakistan.
Mohsin accepted the chief selector's role which was turned down by Saeed Anwar. He is Pakistan's fourth chief selector in the past 12 months. "My ultimate dream is to coach the national team in the batting department," he signed off.u00a0
