IPL 2026: Sanju Samson scores his 4th IPL ton to take CSK past 200 against DC

Sanju Samson scored his maiden century for the Chennai Super Kings as he finally announced his arrival in front of a packed MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Samson's brilliant innings of 113 runs took CSK to 212 at the end of their innings against Delhi Capitals. Samson looked in fine touch from ball one as he drove through the covers on the first ball. The Indian star opener raced to a half-century just after the end of the powerplay and helped CSK put on a competitive score on the board. Samson's innings consisted of 15 fours and 3 sixes as he powered his way to his 4th IPL ton, and first for his new franchise. This was also the first century this season in the IPL, fittingly from the batsman who won the player of the tournament in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Sanju Samson was well supported by Ayush Mhatre, and the duo stitched together a partnership of 113 runs before Mhatre retired out after scoring 59 runs off 36 balls. Shivam Dube joined Samson in the middle for the final part of CSK's innings, and the duo took CSK to 212 runs at the end of 20 overs. Having put into bat first, CSK will be pleased with the total and will hope that the bowlers can defend the total. CSK are still looking for the first win of the season, having lost all three matches so far. For the Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel was the only wicket-taker and finished his quota of four overs with 1/39. DC are in fine form this season, but will need another big chase to get a win. The Delhi-based franchise lost in a last-ball thriller against the Gujarat Titans in their last outing. Confirmed playing XI for both teams: Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Ayush Mhatre, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul(w), Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel(c), David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Auqib Nabi Dar, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar

Sanju Samson scored his maiden half-century for Chennai Super Kings as he raced to 61 runs in 32 balls at the end of 10 overs. Samson's innings helped CSK reach 88 runs in the first 10 overs.  Put into bat, CSK started well with Sanju Samson in fine form. The Indian star batter raced to xx runs to give CSK a fast start in the powerplay. Samson's innings consisted of 11 fours as he made use of the powerplay restrictions in the first six overs. The opener was dropped 54 and will look to make full use of itWhile Samson looked at his best, his opening partner, Ruturaj Gaikwad, failed to impress. Gaikwad was dismissed for 15 runs off 18 balls as he failed to get going. The CSK captain has struggled for runs so far this season. With Dewald Brevis back in the team and Shivam Dube still to come, CSK will hope to score big in their first innings as they look to win their first match this season. For DC, Axar Patel was the best bowler as he took the wicket of the opposition captain Gaikwad. Having won the toss, Patel decided to bowl first in Chennai. "We would like to bowl first because the pitch looks good, and whatever score is set, we would prefer to chase it. The IPL is a long tournament and the dressing room atmosphere is very relaxed. The discussion has been around focusing on what we can control, once we reach a certain point, there’s no need to overthink things." Axar Patel said. Gaikwad admitted that he was looking to bowl first too, but was happy to put runs on the board. The CSK skipper announced Brevis has recovered from his injury and is back in the team. CSK are still chasing their first win of IPL 2026. IPL 2026: 'We got a phenomenal start' Shreyas Iyer reacts after win against SRH

The Punjab Kings chased 220 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad with 6 wickets in hand to keep their early momentum going. PBKS got off to a flying start by the openers before captain Shreyas Iyer guided his team to victory. Chasing a big total of 220, PBKS got off to a flying start with both openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, attacking the SRH bowling from the first over. Arya raced to 57 runs of just 20 balls, while Prabhsimran scored 51 in 25 balls. The hosts scored 93 in the power play to start their run chase well. Later on, Shreyas Iyer guided his team home with an unbeaten 69 of just 33 balls to take PBKS into second place on the league table. Speaking after the win, Shreyas Iyer praised his bowlers for their comeback after a difficult powerplay."We got a phenomenal start. It was magnificent to watch; they were proper cricketing shots. It wasn't easy. I had to give myself some time, and thankfully it worked out. All of us came together, and Shashank approached me. I needed someone who bowls at 120. He lived up to his expectations. Kudos to him and his thought process. We want to maintain the same rhythm going forward. All of us know that we've got the skills. Openers, they don't need to curb their instincts. It's easy for us. We've been magnificent with our work ethic. I am very ecstatic," Shreyas Iyer said. Ishan Kishan left disappointed after yet another defeat SRH captain Ishan Kishan was disappointed by the defeat, especially after scoring 219 runs in the first innings. Kishan said that bowlers had a total to defend but could not execute their plans. "A big score, but not big enough today. In the middle, we could have ended up with a total of 250 at least, the way we got started. But things happen. We did not end up getting those runs. But at the same time, they did actually bat well in the beginning, and they also had the power play on their side. At the same time, I feel we were not so good with the execution. So we were not that great today. Par, to be very honest, I thought 219 was a good total anyway because we started in a very good manner. I said it's basic cricket. You know, you go into bat, you score runs. Your bowlers have a total. You try to defend it. But at the same time, if you don't bowl in the right areas, if you're not planning properly, then you can't stop runs in the middle. So, yeah, it all depends on your planning and execution, to be very honest," Ishan Kishan said.

IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals win the toss and elect to bowl first against CSK

Axar Patel won the toss, and the Delhi Capitals will bowl first against the Chennai Super Kings. CSK and DC are facing off at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After winning the toss, Axar Patel was happy to bowl first. DC is coming off a defeat against GT. "We would like to bowl first because the pitch looks good, and whatever score is set, we would prefer to chase it. The IPL is a long tournament, and the dressing room atmosphere is very relaxed. The discussion has been around focusing on what we can control; once we reach a certain point, there’s no need to overthink things. So that’s been the mindset: control what’s in our hands. The mood is good. If you look at the balance of our side, we have almost all bases covered. As for the surface, it has been a good batting wicket this season. Over the last couple of years in Chennai, it has played well. It’s a red soil pitch, so there should be good bounce. We will aim to restrict them to as low a total as possible and then chase it down. There are two changes. Nabi comes in for Vipraj, and Ashutosh Sharma replaces Nitish Rana," Axar Patel said. Ruturaj Gaikwad said that he was looking to bowl first too but was happy to put runs on the board too. Dewald Brevis is back in the CSK team. "The pitch does look a bit on the drier side. We were actually 50-50 about the toss, but it’s good to back ourselves. The aim is to put our best foot forward today, get that first win, and get on the points table. That’s what we’ve been trying over the last couple of games as well. It’s wonderful to have Brevis back; he’s excited and ready. The middle order looks solid as well. We’ve also brought in Gurjapneet Singh, who has been bowling well recently, in place of Matt Henry. For those asking about MS Dhoni, he’s at the hotel watching and supporting us. But yes, very soon, you’ll see him out on the ground." Ruturaj Gaikwad said. Confirmed playing XI for both teams: Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Sanju Samson (w), Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Ayush Mhatre, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): Pathum Nissanka, KL Rahul (w), Sameer Rizvi, Axar Patel (c), David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Auqib Nabi Dar, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar

It's a day game and obviously want to get a knack of how the wicket is going to play and a fair idea. But other than that, that's what we've been doing in the last couple of games." Shreyas Iyer said. Ishan Kishan admitted that he would have liked to bowl first too, but did not mind batting first on a fresh wicket. And it's about playing good cricket in the first innings." Kishan said. IPL 2026: Shreyas Iyer wins the toss; PBKS will bowl first against SRH

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first against SRH. Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are going head-to-head in New Chandigarh. After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer was happy to bowl first. The PBKS skipper wanted to chase in the day game. "We're going to bowl first. It's a day game and obviously want to get a knack of how the wicket is going to play and a fair idea. But other than that, that's what we've been doing in the last couple of games. We've been thriving on that. (Things to address?) I personally feel that you can't control the nature of the weather. You've just got to go with the flow. And I personally feel that we don't have to address anything at any point of time. Just back each other, back all the youngsters in the team. The more you tell them, the more confusing it gets for them. So, it's better that they live in their own nature and express themselves. No, we're going with the same team. Actually, bowling first, Priyansh comes in for Nehal." Shreyas Iyer said. Ishan Kishan admitted that he would have liked to bowl first too, but did not mind batting first on a fresh wicket. "We would have loved to bowl first. But yeah, I think wicket looks pretty hard to me. And it's about playing good cricket in the first innings. (On captaining) Obviously, it's a big disadvantage for any team, Pat is a tremendous bowler. He gets on with an experience of his. But still, I feel we've got a young side, young bowlers today in the team. And hopefully, we'll just try and execute the plans, which is the most important thing in T20 cricket. Yeah, there are two changes. Salil comes in in place of Livingstone and Praful Hinge, it's his debut game, in place of Jaydev Unadkat." Kishan said. Confirmed Playing XI for both teams: Punjab Kings (Playing XI): Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh(w), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer(c), Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan(w/c), Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, Harshal Patel, Eshan Malinga

Having won the toss, RR decided to bowl first on a fresh wicket in Guwahati "We're going to be bowling. It was supposed to be a dry wicket, but it has been raining for the last couple of days, and it rained a bit today as well. So there's going to be a little moisture. We're trying to extract it, but it seems like a really good wicket. Feels great. I think we've been very clinical before the start of the tournament. My message to the team was that we want to be a really pure team that plays really strategic cricket, really smart cricket. So hopefully we keep on assessing and adapting as we have been in the first three games and hopefully come up with really good points." Riyan Parag said. IPL 2026: Riyan Parag wins toss; RR elect to bowl first against RCB

Rajasthan Royals win the toss and elect to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The two teams are facing off in Guwahati and are still unbeaten this season. Rajasthan Royals defeated the Mumbai Indians in a rain-curtailed match in Guwahati last time, while RCB defeated CSK at Bengaluru. After winning the toss, Riyan Parag was happy to bowl first and chase RCB's target. "We're going to be bowling. It was supposed to be a dry wicket, but it has been raining for the last couple of days and it rained a bit today as well. So there's going to be a little moisture. We're trying to extract it, but it seems like a really good wicket. Feels great. I think we've been very clinical before the start of the tournament. My message to the team was that we want to be a really pure team that plays really strategic cricket, really smart cricket. So hopefully we keep on assessing and adapting as we have been in the first three games and hopefully come up with really good points. Tushar takes a rest and Brijesh comes in. I think it's a fresh start. I told them when we won against Mumbai, as soon as the sun came up, it was past. And we need to forget about that. That's what Sanga said before we left the hotel as well. All three games are in the past. Today we've got to perform. If we don't, we lose two points and we don't want to do that. I mean, as long as they keep on going, I'm happy. I'm happy with this batting. I'm happy with this whole. So yeah, hopefully they keep on going." Riyan Parag said. Rajat Patidar admitted that he wanted to bowl first too but was happy to bat first on a good-looking wicket. "This is our first away game. Thanks to everyone. I think you are making us feel that it's already our home ground. So we all love you. Unfortunately, Duffy misses out in this game. Josh in the place of Duffy. Duffy also bowled brilliantly in the last game. But everyone knows Josh is an experienced player, a specialist. But I think his presence will definitely put us in a good frame of mind." Rajat Patidar said.
