In the IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a win by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the RCB's campaign, all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been playing a crucial role with both bat and ball. He also said that his ultimate goal is to represent India in top-flight cricket. "The ultimate goal is to represent the country, and I don't dwell too much on it. I want to keep doing what I have in my hand, which is to go out there and perform and win games. And in that process, if I get that opportunity, I'll be really glad because that's the ultimate goal, playing for the country," he told reporters. "And yeah, whatever opportunity I got playing for the country in white ball, I did a pretty decent job at that time. It's just I want to do my thing, and the rest of the things, I leave it to God," added Krunal. In the match against the "Paltan", he returned with the figures of one wicket for 26 runs in four overs. Following the win, RCB is placed in the third position on the points table. With three wins and one loss, the Rajat Patidar-led team has a net run rate (NRR) of +1.148 and six points. The Royal Challengers' next game is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 15 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Despite the loss, MI's Sherfane Rutherford stole the show by showcasing towering maximums. Facing just 31 balls, he smashed an unbeaten 71 runs, laced with a boundary and nine maximums. Speaking after the loss, he feels that the opposition teams have been batting well against the "Paltan". "It's definitely not a concern. If we be honest, other teams bat well. I think we need to give credit where it's due. I think the guys bat well," he told the reporters. "As I said, it's just a small margin for us. We are probably two fields changing or something in the field. I don't think it's much to do with our bowlers. I think it's just about executing and getting better," added Rutherford. The left-handed batsman also said that the important thing for MI is to keep learning from the minor setback. "I think it's just small margins. As a team, I think our preparation has been good; as a unit, I think we have been preparing well. It's just small margins. I think the last game was a matter of fact of 3-4-8s. Same thing in this game, about 3-4-8s. I think what is important for us is to keep learning," said the 27-year-old cricketer. This was the Mumbai Indians' third loss in four matches by far. With one win and three defeats, the "Paltan" has been placed in the eighth position with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.772 and two points. 13 April,2026 01:50 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentSkipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler backed up pacer Prasidh Krishna’s excellent four-wicket burst with flamboyant half-centuries, guiding Gujarat Titans to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL match here on Sunday. Krishna shone brightly with figures of 4-28 as GT restricted LSG to 164-8 and then the visitors rode on Gill (56 off 40 balls) and Buttler (60 off 37 balls) to chase down the target with eight balls to spare. GT skipper Shubman Gill (left) and Jos Buttler during their 84-run stand Krishna said the pitch offered little margin for error for both sides: “The pitch was challenging — even for the bowlers. If you didn’t get your line or length right, it would travel. We saw that in the Powerplay; every time we missed our slot, they [LSG batters] played some really good shots. It was quite challenging for both bowlers and batsmen,” he said. The 30-year-old, who bowled several slower balls during his match-winning spell, said those were the result of extensive practice in the nets. “Definitely a lot of practice. You need to bowl a lot of those in the nets and feel good about them before you can bring them into the game.” LSG skipper Rishabh Pant admitted that his side fell short with the bat and failed to capitalise on the opportunities presented in the game. “Definitely not enough runs. There’s nothing from the fact that they bowled well,” Pant said. “I think on a wicket like this, a score like 170 to 180 is a really good score. But, you know, the wicket kept on falling and they put enough pressure on us to get those wickets going,” he added. Besides Krishna, Ashok Sharma (2-32), Siraj (1-19) and Rabada (1-54) were the other wicket-takers for the Gujarat side. 13 April,2026 10:26 AM IST | Lucknow | AgenciesRajasthan Royals' long-time team manager Romi Bhinder has courted controversy after TV cameras caught him using a mobile phone in the team dugout during their IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The incident was first shared on Instagram by a social media influencer but it has been ascertained that Bhinder was indeed using a mobile phone with teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sitting beside him during the Royals' six-wicket win in Guwahati on Friday. "Yes, Bhinder has indeed breached the protocol of Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) as cell phones are banned in the dugout during match," a BCCI official confirmed. On IPL's official website, the concerned clause regarding PMOA protocol 2026 states: "The Team Manager may use a phone in the dressing room but NOT in the dugout." People in the know feel that Bhinder, who has been associated with the franchise since its inception, was expected to be fully aware of the anti-corruption protocols. "It could be inadvertent but there has to be some action since it amounts to breach. Whether it will be warning or match ban will depend on match referee and ACU report. Based on that IPL GC can take a call," the senior official said. Bhinder could face closer scrutiny, especially after Sooryavanshi referred to him as his "local guardian" during the post-match presentation. 13 April,2026 10:06 AM IST | New Delhi | PTIA rampant Rajasthan Royals will look to tighten their grip on the top spot when they face an inconsistent Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Indian Premier League clash here on Monday. The Royals have been the standout side this season, ticking almost every box with authority. Four commanding wins in as many games have underlined their dominance, powered by a destructive top order and a vastly improved bowling attack. At the heart of their success is the explosive opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who have consistently dismantled opposition attacks in the Powerplay. Jaiswal's elegance combined with Sooryavanshi's fearless strokeplay have made them one of the most feared duos this season. At number three, Dhruv Jurel has added stability, stitching partnerships and ensuring the early momentum is not lost. The middle order, led by skipper Riyan Parag, remains largely untested, though it has not maximised the limited chances it has got so far, perhaps the only minor concern in an otherwise dominant campaign. But what has truly marked RR's transformation is their bowling. After finishing ninth last season due to a lack of penetration, they have returned as a far more disciplined and threatening unit. Jofra Archer has spearheaded the attack with pace and precision, while Nandre Burger has added bite with the new ball, using his left-arm angle and bounce to unsettling effect. Sandeep Sharma and Tushar Deshpande have complemented them well. In the middle overs, Ravi Bishnoi has been the go-to wicket-taker, leading the charts with nine scalps, while the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja has further deepened their spin arsenal. In contrast, Sunrisers Hyderabad have blown hot and cold, struggling for consistency despite flashes of brilliance. Having lost three of their four games, the former champions sit on the sixth spot. Their game plan remains the same as they continue to rely on the explosive duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma for brisk starts, but both have been inconsistent. Stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan has also fizzled out after his opening-match knock. Much of the scoring burden has fallen on Heinrich Klaasen, whose 184 runs from four innings have kept SRH competitive in patches. Their problems, however, extend to the bowling department, which appears thin in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins. The attack has struggled to contain opposition batters, especially in high-scoring conditions, placing added pressure on the batting unit. For SRH, the challenge will be to deliver a complete performance against a side that has scarcely put a foot wrong. Early wickets and a collective bowling effort will be crucial if they are to disrupt RR's rhythm. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 13 April,2026 10:02 AM IST | Hyderabad | PTIChennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Gaikwad has been fined 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate in his team's first win of the season after three consecutive losses. "As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gaikwad was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the IPL said in a statement. Gaikwad became the third skipper who was found guilty of a slow over-rate offence after Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer and Gujarat Titans captain Shubhman Gill. Iyer maintained a slow over-rate in two consecutive matches; first against Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh on March 31. He breached the code again in the very next game against CSK on April 2. Gill, meanwhile, was found guilty during the match against Delhi Capitals on April 8. Coming to the match, Sanju Samson’s scintillating unbeaten 115 and Jamie Overton’s clinical 4-18 powered CSK to a 23-run victory over DC and got their first win of the IPL 2026 on Saturday. Samson, the hero of India’s 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup triumph, lit up Chepauk with the first century of the ongoing season, smashing 115 off just 56 balls, laced with 15 fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 205.36, as CSK posted a massive 212/2. Despite the stiff target, DC began their chase brightly as Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul raced past the 50-run mark in the fourth over. However, the momentum shifted decisively when CSK struck thrice in three overs. Overton picked 4-18 – the best figures of the season so far, as the visitors were eventually bowled out for 189 in 20 overs. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 13 April,2026 09:58 AM IST | Chennai | IANSChennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons said three successive defeats did not dent the side’s spirit but admitted the players were “tired of losing” as the five-time champions finally opened their account in IPL 2026. CSK snapped their losing streak with a commanding 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals here on Saturday night. “The boys really were desperate to win this one today. I think we were tired of losing after losing three in a row,” Simons told reporters after CSK bowled out DC for 189. CSK players celebrate the wicket of DC’s Sameer Rizvi in Chennai on Saturday. Pics/IPL “The mood in the changing room tonight is obviously really good, but it never really dropped. I think people looked at the RCB game and thought, oh, we were a long way behind. We didn’t think we were a long way behind. “In this tournament, you need to get on the roll and you need to get the positivity going There’s a lot of positive to be around the camp after a win like this but even leading into it, the practices have been good, the attitudes have been good.” Asked if something was lacking in the previous games, the South African said: “No, I don’t think so. I mean, think it’s a lack of self-belief. It’s funny, often fielding is the mood of a team. And Sarfaraz takes a catch like this, it just lifts everybody. “So those little things are important. But I don’t think it was lacking. I just think it was particularly abundant today. So there was there was a certain attitude about the guys rather than anything else but now the self-belief has always been there.” It was a clinical performance as Sanju Samson returned to form with a 56-ball 115, while Ayush Mhatre struck a fluent 59 to power CSK to 212 for 2. Jamie Overton then claimed4-18 to bowl DC out for 189. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 13 April,2026 09:56 AM IST | Chennai | PTITwo of the most high profile teams in the IPL were playing at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday evening. I was looking forward to watching the riveting action. But I was denied the IPL pass despite being a former Test player. It is quite humiliating to be told that my name is not on the roster of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Having played a Test match for India at the Wankhede in 1977, played cricket in Mumbai as a registered MCA cricketer from 1973, being in the Managing Committee in 1989 and 1990 apart from being a Chief Guest at many MCA tournaments/ functions, one has to still endure such humiliation. It also shows how much a former, old cricketer is valued in today’s world. It was in 1976 when I went to Mr SK Wankhede, asking for a pass for the India versus New Zealand Test match (my neighbour Ravi Shastri referred to the Test the other day during his acceptance speech for the stand honour). I told Mr Wankhede then that I will be playing the next Test (vs England in the same 1976-77 season) at his stadium, so I will not bother him thereafter. Mr Wankhede himself relayed the story in a function before the 1977 Test against England at a function. A little less than 50 years later, a full circle has emerged. The Test player pass story has haunted me for the last four to five years; often ending up being given one in the stands as a goodwill gesture. I guess one has to accept that the past is irrelevant — “What do they know of cricket, that only cricket know?” One wonders if the people at MCA know who penned this and I don’t expect them to know about CLR James. This piece is not to seek sympathy, it is to highlight the reality that many former cricketers face. The writer is the first Test player (in 1977) to take five catches in an innings after Australia’s Vic Richardson did so in 1936.
13 April,2026 09:46 AM IST | Mumbai | A CorrespondentPhil Salt was at his attacking best at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night, taking the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) way past the 200-mark (240-4) against Mumbai Indians (MI). Put in to bat, Salt (36-ball 78, 6x4, 6x6) was fearless. He took only 10 singles and four doubles during his knock, while as many as 60 runs came through fours and sixes. The Englishman’s inside-out four through covers off pacer Trent Boult in the first over, was the outcome of some fine footwork and accurate placement between covers and mid-off. He then executed a Rohit Sharma-like pull shot to smash Boult for a six over square leg. Salt’s second, third and fourth sixes of the innings came in three successive balls when he hammered left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner on the leg side, taking 22 runs off the over. Salt’s half-century came in a mere 25 balls, through a cracking four off spinner Mayank Markande, between long-on and deep mid-wicket. Salt and opening partner Virat Kohli’s partnership was worth 71 after just six overs. Shardul Thakur eventually broke the 120-run opening stand, dismissing Salt through MI captain Hardik Pandya at covers. Besides Salt, Kohli (38-ball 50, 5x4, 1x6) and skipper Rajat Patidar (20-ball 53, 4x4, 5x6) also helped themselves to half-centuries. Kohli, who was beaten on the very first ball he faced while trying to flick Boult, showcased some exemplary wrist work and footwork to hit the pacer for a couple of boundaries. Kohli reached his second 50 of this IPL in 37 balls. Earlier, players from both MI and RCB teams wore black armbands and observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday.
13 April,2026 09:41 AM IST | Mumbai | Subodh MayureIn the IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerged victorious by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After securing a dominating win, RCB's skipper Rajat Patidar said, "I think, you know, whenever we come here in Mumbai, especially at this ground, the atmosphere, the fans, and playing along with them and playing in a full-packed stadium - that's a different feeling. It was, I would say it's a more clarity about every individual, I would say (on the strong batting). And the way Virat Bhai and Salt started the innings, I think that kept us in the driving seat. Then a good cameo by me and Tim (David), I think that was a pure team effort. To be honest, people used to say that I love playing spin, but if someone asks me, I would say I love playing pace. And playing pace on this track, I think it's a very good track to play a fast bowler. So I think I love (facing) fast bowling. I don't know yet, but I think he, I feel that he's okay right now (on Virat Kohli)". On the other hand, MI's captain Hardik Pandya said, "Yes (lost too many wickets) and at the same point of time, I think we conceded way too many (runs) as well. I think that was always going to be catch-up. I think in the last couple of games, as a bowling unit or even as a batting unit, we’ve been catching up in the game rather than leading the game. We really need to reflect, really need to see what best we can do and how we can get that momentum and that click which we require. We have a couple of days off from here and we’ll play again. To be very honest, now a lot of things need to be rethought. Definitely, it’s not working. A couple of games we have won the toss, but maybe we need to see what other options we have as a batting group or bowling group. Looking at the kind of wicket it’s playing, if we can bat well, that would be good. We still need to play good cricket, we need to bat well, we need to bowl well. If we do that, then irrespective of the toss, we’ll be fine. That’s what we are planning and talking about, how do we get some momentum in the powerplay. Because if you see, in both batting and bowling, we are kind of trying to catch up in the powerplay. As you said, a lot of options will be asked and explored. We’ll see what we can do in the next game. When we got him (Rutherford), it was always exciting for us. We always knew the kind of potential and the kind of power he has. The way he batted gives us extra cushion and at the same time confidence that if we want to make some changes or see what the team requires, we can definitely do that because of the way he’s batting". IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Second innings' summary In an attempt to chase a target of 241 runs, the "Paltan" managed to score 222 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
