Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, Team India’s management has not included in-form and consistent batsman Shreyas Iyer in the national squad. Following his omission, former Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed disappointment by saying, "I hope someone has talked to Shreyas and Jaiswal."

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin said, "Selection is a thankless job. You have to leave someone out. When you talk to them, you have to go through that sadness and disappointment in their faces. I hope someone has talked to Shreyas and Jaiswal."

Along with Iyer, one of India’s most consistent opening batsmen, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was also left out of the squad.

Speaking on the left-hander’s exclusion, the former spinner said, "When you have Jaiswal as your third opener, you have brought Shubman Gill into the team by removing a person from the World Cup-winning squad. I mean, I am happy for Shubman, but I am very, very sad for both Shreyas and Jaiswal. It's just not fair on both."

Further, Ashwin heaped praise on Iyer, saying the right-hander did an amazing job in the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025.

"Look at the credentials of Shreyas Iyer. He went out of the team, but came back in the Champions Trophy and batted amazingly. He won and gave it to you. If the answer is that Shubman Gill is in blasting form, Shreyas Iyer is also in high-quality form," he added.

The 38-year-old then raised a question to the BCCI by saying that despite Jaiswal being in cracking form, what answer does the board have for him?

"Jaiswal’s innings on a tricky pitch in the last game at the Oval... he is also in cracking form. So, how can you give an answer for this?" Ashwin questioned.

The Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 9, with the first match scheduled to be played between Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The "Men in Blue" will kick off their tournament with a match against the UAE on September 10.

India's squad for Asia Cup 2025: Surya Kumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Sanju Samson (WK), Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh

Reserve players: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal.
