Shaantanu Panchal’s solitary goal helped Don Bosco High School (Matunga) beat Cathedral and John Connon (Fort) to clinch the boys U-12 Div-I Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football title at Azad Maidan on Tuesday.
Cathedral began the match on the front foot, but their attacking forays were met with strong resistance from Don Bosco’s backline, marshalled by Kanav Dasari and Rivaldo Lobo. Don Bosco broke the deadlock in the 13th minute as a miscued clearance from Cathedral fell kindly to Zidane Sequeira and he played a long ball forward to Shaantanu, who broke free off his markers before calmly slotting the ball into the net. It was his seventh goal of the tournament, underlining his vital role in Don Bosco’s march to the title.
The Bosco boys could have doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when Anish Kalyadappu unleashed a fierce strike from the edge of the box, but it was brilliantly saved by a diving Cathedral custodian Aarav Doshi.
