To encourage amateur runners in the state, the fourth edition of the Athletics Federation of India-recognised Vasai-Virar Mayor's Marathon will have a new addition this year — a 11 km run for participants above the age of 18.
The November 2 Vasai-Virar Mayor’s Marathon has so received a whopping 1000 entries so far and more are expected to join in the with the last date of registration for the Rs 20 lakh prize money event being October 23.
Narayan Mankar, Mayor of the Vasai-Virar region, explained that the idea is to encourage maximum participation and for this, besides the 11 km run for amateurs, four new age group events for men and women have also been introduced.
