Adriano refused to comment yesterday after being questioned about alleged ties to local drug traffickers.
The Brazil striker, who has been left out of the World Cup squad, did not speak to media when he left the state prosecutor's office in Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ).

A statement released on Tuesday confirmed they were investigating Adriano over newspaper allegations he has given money to a well-known ringleader.

"The MPRJ understands that a rigorous investigation by the judiciary police is necessary to look into the facts divulged by the O Dia newspaper with respect to the possible delivery of R$ 60,000 (approx ufffd22,500) to the drug trafficker Fabiano Atanasio da Silva, leader of the Comando Vermelho," it read.

It is the second time this year Adriano has been called in by police after he was questioned in April about a motorbike he had bought which was registered to the mother of a drug trafficker - something he denied knowing about.

Speculation is rife that the troubled star is set to sign for Roma but the news could have scuppered the former Inter Milan striker's return to Italy.
