The grade 1, Nanoli Stud Pune Derby wears an open look as none of the ten runners in the fray has an unblemished record that can single him or her out as an outstanding contender.
The most well-performed horse, Tintinnabulation from Hyderabad, whose only loss was in the Bangalore Derby when the going was slushy, will be racing on the Pune track for the first time, while another talented runner, the Dr Ramaswamy-owned Shivalik Hero, comes into this race with a chequered career of three wins from six starts.
The Altamash Ahmed-trained An Acquired Taste, perhaps the most impressive horse in the line up, unfortunately has not had the benefit of a run on this track this season. However, he has run an absolutely brilliant mock race two weeks ago, and if he can reproduce that performance in a real race, it would be very difficult to toss him. Contrary to expectations, a threat, if any, to An Acquired Taste may come from the Bezan Chenoy-trained Commander who had run a gallant runner up to stable mate Neona in last start.
